Information about our warehousing
Our warehouse is kept cool at all times!
If you want goods that are fresh, have been kept at a constant temperature and are dispatched in insulated packaging or well-chilled during hot weather, shop with us. If that doesn’t matter to you and you’re happy to accept out-of-date goods or items that have been sitting in a warehouse at 30 degrees in the summer, head to Amazon – there’s a good chance you’ll find what you’re looking for, although of course this doesn’t apply to every seller there...

Our Freshness Guarantee
Not every jar or tin is sold within a matter of days.
Some remain in storage for several months, which isn’t really a problem given best-before dates of
2–5 years.
This isn’t a problem for us, as our warehouse is constantly
air-conditioned. In summer, the temperature never exceeds 21 degrees; from October to
April, no cooling is necessary as the temperature naturally stays below
20 degrees.
By way of comparison: Amazon is, unfortunately, extremely popular with customers.
Perhaps this is partly because they’re dazzled by low prices
and don’t pay enough attention to the details...
We once sent an enquiry to Amazon asking what their
storage temperatures were like.
On 8 January 2018, Amazon informed us:“Generally speaking,
we cannot guarantee a cold chain. Whilst the products are in
transit, they must withstand the outside temperatures. Otherwise,
a general
storage temperature of 10°C to 30°C applies from 15 October to 30 April.”
Each customer can judge for themselves what sense such storage makes for products labelled ‘store in a cool, dry place’ or, as with algae oils, ‘store in the fridge only’.
Many of the brands we stock can also be ordered directly from other retailers on Amazon, particularly those from EnergyBalance and
Podomedi. Nor will the
semi-moist pet food from Tales & Tails
certainly improve in quality as a result of this storage method...
These products are then delivered “fresh” from an Amazon warehouse heated to 30 degrees
...
Compelling evidence for this assumption can be found, for example, by looking at negative reviews of chocolate. We
came across this review ourselves whilst searching for “Vielen
Dank” chocolate treats, which we like to include with our customers’ orders.
Naturally, there are many reviews from July or August where
customers complain that the chocolate had melted. This is likely to have
happened during transit and is normal when there’s
another heatwave.
But by the end of September, there certainly hadn’t been a
heatwave for quite some time; this review clearly shows that the
chocolate had already melted in the warehouse during the summer and then
solidified again:

You can easily tell this sort of thing from the appearance of chocolate. But with algae oil, which – due to
decomposition – is no longer beneficial to health but
actually harmful, you can’t tell just by looking at it...
We terminated our partnership with Amazon in 2022!
Our goods are always well chilled, which we’re happy to prove with a
long-term log of storage temperatures!
Other fulfilment providers are no better than Amazon; we
enquired with several, but refrigeration isn’t standard practice anywhere. Either we were informed of this in writing, or the FBA providers simply stopped responding altogether; not a single one mentioned a specialised warehouse for dietary supplements and foodstuffs.
Unfortunately, we do not know
what the situation is like at
other small online shops that stock the same products
as us. But presumably
not many will be willing to bear air-conditioning costs of around 100 euros a month
for 10 square metres of storage space.
Furthermore, from July to
August, we only dispatch temperature-sensitive goods from Monday to Thursday, unless the
temperatures are definitely low enough over the weekend.
Customers can also take their own precautions and
order frozen ice packsalongside their algae oil or Life Security drink,
which we then include in the well-insulated parcel.
But even if a customer happens to forget, we’ll remember
and include frozen batteries at our discretion. This is at
our expense and also depends on the judgement of the packer in our warehouse. It’s safer to actively order batteries as well, especially as they’re
cheaper from us than in ordinary shops and can then be
used throughout the summer.
