Obesity, menopause and miscarriages are examples of factors that can have a significant impact on women's heart health. However, most women are unaware of the particular risks to their heart. The contraceptive pill also harbours many risks, more than most women are aware of. Due to their special hormones, women have an advantage over men in terms of the risk of cardiovascular problems, but this advantage unfortunately disappears after the menopause. What applies equally to both sexes, however, is that too high a cholesterol level, especially bad LDL cholesterol, is just as risky as an undersupply of important omega-3 fatty acids. These used to be a natural part of the diet, and not just for people who lived by the sea. Naturally fed game also has a much higher content of these. Today it can make sense to supplement this, e.g. with fish, algae or krill oil.
