Sunfiber® (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) - Prebiotic fibres with good tolerability.
Sunfiber® (PHGG) is a high-quality source of dietary fibre and is obtained from the plant Cyamopsis tetragonoloba. In contrast to conventional guar gum, this ingredient undergoes a special hydrolysis process that significantly improves its solubility and tolerability.
Studies show that this prebiotic fibre specifically promotes the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli [1]. As comprehensive reviews have shown [2], this effect promotes the function of the intestinal barrier and helps to create a balanced intestinal environment.
Research results also show that PHGG can effectively dampen the postprandial rise in blood sugar. Randomised controlled trials show a significant improvement in postprandial blood glucose levels with regular intake of this guar gum variant [3].
Highly esterified apple pectin (72-76%) - regulation of cholesterol levels and satiety effect
Due to its high degree of esterification, this fibre has special functional properties in the digestive tract. Meta-analyses have shown that regular consumption of this pectin variant can help to keep blood cholesterol levels within the normal range [4].
The gel-forming properties of this particular type of pectin slow down gastric emptying, which is associated with a long-lasting feeling of satiety and a reduced glucose reaction after meals, as shown in a randomised crossover study [5]. Due to these physiological effects, high-esterified apple pectin proves to be a valuable component in the regulation of metabolism.
In the small intestine, this fibre forms a viscous gel matrix that influences the absorption of dietary fats and cholesterol and at the same time supports the excretion of bile acids - a mechanism that contributes to the regulation of cholesterol levels [6].
Low-esterified apple pectin (38-44%) - Ideal fermentation in the intestine
The physico-chemical properties of the second pectin variant differ from those of highly esterified pectin. In particular, this form is characterised by its optimal fermentability in the large intestine.
In vitro studies have shown that this pectin fraction is fermented by the intestinal microbiota into short-chain fatty acids such as acetate, propionate and butyrate. Intestinal epithelial cells use these metabolites as an energy source, they promote the integrity of the intestinal barrier and modulate immunological processes in the intestine.
Clinical studies have also shown that dietary fibres with a moderate degree of esterification can have positive effects on the composition of the intestinal flora and glucose metabolism. According to current studies, regular supplementation leads to an increase in beneficial bacterial strains and an improvement in glucose tolerance.

Instructions
Lumps may form when dissolved in water, juice or tea, as some dietary fibres are not completely soluble. Drink at least 1.5 litres daily. For diabetics: Apple pectin slows down the rise in blood sugar. In addition, keep at least 3 hours away from high-fat supplements such as fish oil, as it binds cholesterol.
