Galactose, ribose, mannose, inulin - the special carbohydrates!
Galactose is an important component of breast milk and is necessary for the development and maturation of the infant's brain. It coats every cell and ensures good contact between the nerve cells, which is not only beneficial for babies. Although mannose is excreted in the urine, it has the ability to bind superfluous substances and carry them away. This makes bladder-friendly cranberries all the more useful! Ribose is a building block in the "fuel of the cells", ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Inulin is particularly well known as food for the important intestinal bacteria and is therefore also known as a "prebiotic"... Read more

Galactose, ribose, mannose and inulin provide more than just energy:
Galactose
- Function: Essential building block for brain development and nerve cells, contained in breast milk.
- Speciality: Low insulin dependency at the time of intake.
Ribose
- Function: Indispensable component of ATP (cell energy) and nucleic acids (DNA/RNA).
- Speciality: Provides quickly available energy for body and mind.
Mannose
- Function: Can bind substances and excrete them via the urine (e.g. for bladder infections).
- Speciality: A monosaccharide that exists alongside galactose and glucose, but has its own metabolic pathways.
Inulin
- Function: A fructan (fructose polymer) and prebiotic fibre that supports the intestinal flora.
- Special feature: Is not digested, lowers the rise in blood sugar and supports intestinal health (often used in fibre concepts).
Similarities & benefits
- Functional sugars: All three (galactose, ribose, mannose) are monosaccharides that perform specific metabolic tasks in addition to their sweetness.
- Insulin-sparing: They are able to influence the blood sugar level less than household sugar, which makes them attractive for diabetics.
- Supplement: You can consciously expand your diet and add them to smoothies, yoghurt, etc.
