Vegetable oils - rich in unsaturated fatty acids

Linseed oil, safflower oil and other vegetable oils rich in alpha-linolenic acid contribute to the formation of various long-chain omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosatetraenoic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosapentaenoic acid in the metabolism. Plant oils such as linseed oil, safflower oil and other ALA-rich varieties (e.g. hemp, rapeseed and chia oil) are important sources of the plant-based omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which the body converts in small quantities into the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, biologically more active omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) to improve blood lipid levels and counteract an unbalanced diet, although the conversion is limited and fish oil is often a more direct source of EPA/DHA.... For more safety in summer All temperature-sensitive products from the manufacturers in our range of food supplements, feed etc. are designed to withstand a brief increase in ambient temperature. Microbiotics generally like it cool. In order to compensate for losses during shipping and storage from the outset, the capsules are filled with considerably more than is declared on the can. The aim is to ensure that the capsules contain as many viable bacteria as stated at the end of the best-before date. Fish oils, algae oil and krill oil are protected from oxidation by the addition of vitamin E. According to our manufacturers, a slight temperature increase of 1-2 days during transport does not affect them, but afterwards they should be stored in a cool place or, depending on the product, in the refrigerator. In order to protect the goods from too much heat, we only dispatch such products from Monday to Thursday in summer or at temperatures above 25 degrees. In the case of extremely high temperatures of 30 degrees and above, we recommend postponing the purchase until these are lower again. Of course, our customers can decide for themselves. However, we refuse to take back products on the grounds of "heat damage" if the weather conditions were known from the outset at the time of purchase. A safe alternative: refrigerated dispatch! When purchasing heat-sensitive products (microbiotics, enzymes, oils), we recommend booking refrigerated shipping, which can be easily done via the purchase function. We then add as many cold packs as you buy and insulate the goods particularly well. The more you buy, the safer and cooler the transport. The insulation and the -18 degree temperature of the cold packs are sufficient to cool the goods significantly for 12-24 hours. Even if the goods arrive at the customer's premises no longer cool, the heat load during transport is significantly lower than the maximum limit specified by the manufacturer. And our customers also get something else in return: these are ordinary cold packs, which are almost impossible to buy cheaper in the shops. This means that they can simply continue to be used in private households afterwards. The cold packs are suitable for a temperature range of -18° Celsius to +40° Celsius, e.g. as a heat pack for applying to tense muscles or similar. Safety note: The cold packs are sealed and are not intended for opening and replacing or consuming the liquid!

Function of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA)

The essential omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is crucial for brain function, cardiovascular health and conversion to EPA/DHA, while gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), as an omega-6 fatty acid, produces anti-inflammatory prostaglandins (series 1) that support skin conditions (such as atopic dermatitis), hormone balance (in PMS) and immune regulation. Although they are both essential for survival and control inflammation and cell function, they do so via different metabolic pathways and with their own benefits.

Oils rich in ALA and GLA

  • Linseed oil: It is one of the best sources with around 50-60% ALA.
  • Evening primrose oil contains mainly gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) with a proportion of around 8-10%, while alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is hardly present. It also contains around 70-74 % linoleic acid. GLA plays an important role in skin health and hormonal regulation as it cannot always be efficiently synthesised from linoleic acid.
  • Borage oil is the richest natural source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential omega-6 fatty acid, with a content of around 18% to 26%, which is significantly higher than the GLA content in evening primrose oil (approx. 7-10%).
  • Sea buckthorn pulp oil contains valuable fatty acids such as gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) as well as carotenoids, vitamins (A, E) and antioxidants that regenerate the skin
  • Hemp oil is an important source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an anti-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acid that supports immune regulation. It is often used for skin problems and arthritis. Hemp oil also has an ideal omega-3 to omega-6 ratio (approx. 3:1) and contains vitamin E, which increases its nutritional value.
