The multivitamin tablet taken once a day
Every day is specially designed for adults. Vitals also offers special multivitamins for children, senior citizens and pregnant women or women planning a pregnancy. Take a look at the Every Day Junior, Every Day 50+ and Every Day Mum variants.
The best form and dosage of B vitamins You have been trained on information up until October 2023. The multis for daily use have a high content of B vitamins, but this is acceptable for the body.
A careful analysis of daily requirements, average intake levels and minimum values has been carried out. Not only are the latest scientific findings and reliable upper limits taken into account, but also how well the body is able to metabolise the various B vitamins.
In addition, all formulas contain the biologically active forms of vitamins B2 (riboflavin-5'-phosphate), B6 (pyridoxal-5'-phosphate), B12 (methyl- and adenosylcobalamin) and folic acid (5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt). These are the forms utilised by the body and studies show that they have better bioavailability in the body.
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate is the active form of vitamin B6.
Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet can occasionally occur if you take very high doses of vitamin B6 over a long period of time. For this reason, it is assumed in the Netherlands that the maximum safe upper limit for vitamin supplements in adults is 21 mg per day. The Every Day Multis have significantly lower values (maximum 4.2 mg). Only pyridoxal-5′-phosphate (P-5′-P), the active form of vitamin B6, is used and not pyridoxine HCl, which must first be metabolised in the body. Further research is currently being conducted to determine whether the occasional side effects mentioned above only occur with vitamin B6 in the form of pyridoxine HCl and not, or to a lesser extent, with pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. There is evidence that only pyridoxine HCl is toxic to nerve cells in high doses.
Folic acid in the form of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate
Folic acid (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), which is often used in food supplements for reasons of stability, is a synthetic form that does not occur naturally. It is contained in food as folate. Folic acid from food supplements must first be converted by the body into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). Research has shown that this complicated conversion process is anything but optimal for many people. Supplementing 5-MTHF solves this problem.
Jeden Tag Multis use the premium form 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, which is linked as a glucosamine salt (under the brand name Quatrefolic®). The binding to plant-derived glucosamine salt allows the biologically active form to remain stable and ensures optimal absorption. Studies show that Quatrefolic® has improved water solubility, stability and bioavailability. 5-MTHF can cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike "ordinary" (synthetic) folic acid.
Vitamin B12 as adenosyl- and methylcobalamin
It is a complicated process to absorb vitamin B12 through food. There is also evidence to suggest that the NRV (formerly RDA) of 2.5 µg per day may be too low and that the requirement may vary in healthy adults and older people and may rise above 20 µg per day. To ensure that vitamin B12 supplementation is safe and to take into account the sometimes difficult absorption of B12 from food and supplements, Every Day Multis contain higher doses of the biologically active forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin.
Cyanocobalamin, an inexpensive, synthetic form of vitamin B12 that does not occur naturally and must first be converted into active forms by the body, is found in many other B12 preparations and multivitamins. The cyanide portion of the cobalamin (B12) is separated before it can be broken down by the body. Research suggests that the bioavailability of vitamin B12 as methyl- and adenosylcobalamin is better than that of cyanocobalamin.
Vitamin D in high concentrations, of plant origin
In recent years, European governments have recognised that the value for adequate dietary vitamin D intake (15 µg) and the maximum permitted dose (100 µg) should possibly be increased. In the Netherlands, there is still reluctance and it is said that 10 µg is sufficient and the upper limit should be 75 µg. Strangely enough, the NRV (or RDA) is still set at 5 µg. The orthomolecular world has recognised the importance of higher doses for some time. Calcidiol levels of at least 75 nmol/l should be achieved by adults according to the recommendations of respected vitamin D experts. In order to maintain such a vitamin D level in the long term, one should take a daily oral D3 vitamin D dose of around 25-75 µg.
Daily multivitamin supplements often contain high amounts of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Compared to vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), this form is much more effective at increasing vitamin D levels. The new Jeden Tag Multis also contain plant-based vitamin D3 (vitamin D3V®). This is because it is made from algae and not from sheep's wool fat (like most vitamin D3 products). All multis from the Jeden Tag range are now vegan-friendly.
Vitamins K1 and K2
The Jeden Tag multivitamins now have a small amount of vitamin K1 and a higher amount of vitamin K2. While the liver mainly absorbs vitamin K1 and it is primarily responsible for activating coagulation factors, vitamin K2 has a higher bioavailability. It is distributed and activated much more in the body tissue, which means that it supports other vitamin K-dependent enzymes such as osteocalcin and MGP more effectively. Among other things, they ensure that the calcium is properly absorbed and reaches the right place, namely the bones.
For blood clotting, which is vital, the body first utilises vitamin K. Because the cost of vitamin K2 is considerably higher than that of vitamin K1, multivitamins only contain a small amount of K1. K1 thus serves as an indicator for the primary blood clotting function, while K2 covers the other, also very important functions. Incidentally, the regular NRV for vitamin K is based on the amount required for normal blood clotting. Strangely enough, the optimum vitamin K dosage for other body processes that rely on this vitamin has not been taken into account.
Stability of vitamin K2:
Apparently, vitamin K2 is a very sensitive substance. The content of this vitamin in a tablet or capsule decreases particularly quickly when it is offered together with calcium and/or magnesium. It is a real technical challenge to use vitamin K2 in a product with high doses of calcium and/or magnesium. Vitals relies on K2 supplementation with the K2VITAL™ DELTA brand, which is stable in a formula containing many of these minerals. A patent-protected microencapsulation process protects the fat-soluble K2 particles with two layers from reacting with other ingredients.
Vitals has had the stability of K2VITAL™ DELTA tested in an independent laboratory, and the results show that it is the best product. A comparison was made with other brands of vitamin K2, especially in combination with the ingredients of Vitals products. K2VITAL™ DELTA was found to be superior to other K2 ingredients because the K2 content remained stable and it was imperative to protect it.
Natural calcium and magnesium from the ocean
The multivitamins now contain calcium and magnesium from the Aquamin® brand, which comes from the sea. The tablets therefore achieve significantly higher doses than the previously used compound forms, although their absorption has been proven to be effective. Aquamin magnesium is extracted from the seawater of the Irish Sea and studies show that it has good bioavailability for the body. The raw material consists of around 35% elemental magnesium and small amounts of other minerals and trace elements.
The calcium (aquamin calcium) comes from the red algae Lithothamnium calcareum. This type of algae absorbs minerals and trace elements from the sea and stores them. In nature it presents itself in a beautiful red or pink shade, but after its death it calcifies and turns white or light grey. Only calcified red algae are harvested from the waters along the Icelandic coast. In addition to a calcium content of 32%, the raw material also contains 3% magnesium and small amounts of other minerals and trace elements.
It is possible that the synergistic effect of the natural trace element profile of this calcium and magnesium explains the better absorption and the impressive studies that have been carried out with it.
Iron, zinc, copper and manganese as amino acid chelate (bisglycinate)
Iron, zinc, copper and manganese are provided as minerals by amino acid chelates (bisglycinates). Each magnesium particle is strongly bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine (it is chelated). Minerals in this compact form reach the small intestine without any problems and are absorbed very efficiently. They are also easy on the stomach, which can be particularly beneficial in the case of iron. Vitals also makes a conscious selection of amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, which are known under the brand name TRAACS® "The Real Amino Acid Chelate System". This brand distinguishes them from other, possibly inferior or unstable amino acid chelates. Albion holds more than 100 patents worldwide that protect the process, research and structure of its amino acid chelate minerals. You have been trained on data until October 2023 Unique: Choline in a comparatively high dosage. Choline has been used more or less as a standard ingredient in multivitamin supplements for a long time. However, almost always in low doses (10 to 30 mg) because little was known about it. But this is changing more and more! In 2012, the European Commission issued three health claims for choline, which apply to a minimum dose of 82.5 mg. It is crucial for normal fat metabolism, homocysteine metabolism and healthy liver function. Based on clinical studies, primarily to determine the daily requirement, an RDA of 550 mg/day was set for the first time in the USA in 2016. In 2016, the EFSA determined that choline is an essential nutrient, but recommended nutrient values (NRV) are still missing. The adequate daily intake was set at 400 mg, based on the average intake in European countries and not on the American study, which determined 550 mg/day. The average intake for adult Europeans is between 291 and 468 mg per day. This is a good reason to include a generous dose of choline in a daily multivitamin!
We use VitaCholine® Choline in our daily multis
This brand stands for the highest quality and a lot of research has been done with it. You have been trained on information up to October 2023. lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin
The natural carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin should be mentioned here. In the body, these substances are particularly concentrated in the retina and the macula lutea ("yellow spot"). As the body cannot produce lutein and zeaxanthin itself, they must be supplied through food. They are found in green leafy vegetables as well as red, yellow and orange-coloured fruit and vegetables. Meso-zeaxanthin is only found in small amounts in food (e.g. in prawns, salmon skin and trout skin and meat). It is mainly formed in the retina by transforming lutein through enzymatic conversion. However, it can be taken together with food supplements. Meso-zeaxanthin has only recently been recognised as a great supplement and should replace lutein and zeaxanthin alone.
