High dose of vitamin C + bioflavonoids for better absorption
The product is enriched with bioflavonoids from citrus fruits and rose hips. Excellent as part of the daily basic supplement. For higher requirements, more than one tablet a day can be taken temporarily.
Bioflavonoids
Bioflavonoids are water-soluble substances which, in combination with vitamin C, are mainly found in fresh fruit and vegetables. Bioflavonoids act synergistically with vitamin C. They contribute to the bioavailability of vitamin C.
Effect of vitamin C
Vitamin C is one of the most frequently mentioned vitamins and is primarily known for its positive influence on the body's defences. And that is correct. The immune system is supported by vitamin C, especially during intensive physical activity or in cold environments. However, this vitamin is also involved in a variety of processes.
In the body, vitamin C acts as a water-soluble antioxidant and is crucial for fighting free radicals. It is part of a complex system of endogenous antioxidants, dietary antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes that are interdependent and interact with each other. In this function, it protects DNA, proteins and fats from oxidative damage and thus contributes to the maintenance of healthy cells and tissue. Vitamin C is also required as a coenzyme for three different enzymes that are involved in the production of collagen (the most common building material in the human body). Normal collagen formation is important for bones, cartilage, gums, skin, tendons and blood vessels, among other things.
Vitamin C is required as a cofactor for dopamine beta-monooxygenase (DBM), the enzyme that converts dopamine into noradrenaline and adrenaline. Both act as neurotransmitters and hormones in the body, making vitamin C's influence on the function of the nervous system and its role in normal mental function a positive one. Two enzymes involved in the synthesis of carnitine - a molecule required for the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for energy production - are dependent on vitamin C. This contributes to energy levels in the body.
Vitamin C therefore contributes to energy levels. It can also help with fatigue. In addition, there are many people whose dietary intake does not contain enough iron - especially women of childbearing age, pregnant women and (young) children. The absorption of iron is improved by vitamin C. This is non-haeme iron, which is found in both plant and animal foods. The absorption of haeme iron, which is found exclusively in animal products, is not affected by vitamin C. Around 90 % of the iron found in food is non-haeme iron, with haeme iron accounting for only 10 %. As an electron donor, vitamin C can convert oxidised vitamin E back into its active, reduced form and thus preserve the effect of vitamin E.
As the human organism is not able to produce vitamin C, it is dependent on dietary intake.
Nutritive properties
- Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system during and after intensive physical activity (this effect only occurs with an additional intake of 200 mg vitamin C).
- Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones and cartilage as well as skin and teeth.
- Vitamin C contributes to a normal energy metabolism, vitamin C contributes to a normal function of the nervous system and to normal mental function as well as to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and increases the absorption of iron.
- Vitamin C contributes to the regeneration of the reduced form of vitamin E and helps to protect cells from oxidative stress.
