Ginkgo plus phosphatidylserine for the brain
The ginkgo biloba or Japanese walnut tree, which originated in central China, is the oldest living tree species on earth (around 300 million years old). Ginkgo biloba leaves have health-promoting properties in the form of extracts. Ginkgo leaves have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 5,000 years to promote health. In Western countries, it is mainly used to support blood circulation and cognitive functions such as memory, concentration and learning ability.
Only highly concentrated, standardised extracts of Ginkgo biloba show effective effects. Vitale Ginkgo biloba-PS capsules contain 480 mg of the ingredient Virtiva® per capsule, which is composed of 120 mg Ginkgo biloba extract (24 mg flavone glycosides and 6 mg terpene lactones) and 360 mg lecithin (55 mg phosphatidylserine). The ratio of flavone glycosides and terpene lactones (24/6) is the one most frequently used in scientific research on Ginkgo biloba.
Optimised absorption through Phytosome® technology
The patented Phytosome® technology from the Italian company Indena has significantly increased the absorption and bioavailability of the flavone glycosides and terpene lactones in Ginkgo biloba-PS. The term "phytosome" is made up of the Greek words "phuton" (plant) and "soma" (body). The patented process reduces the natural clumping of certain phytonutrients that are difficult to absorb (such as those from Ginkgo biloba) and combines them with phospholipids (phosphatidylserine) from sunflower lecithin. The active ingredients are not encapsulated (as in liposomes), but a homogeneous mixture of small, easily absorbable particles is created. Ginkgo biloba active ingredients are lipophilic (terpene lactones) and hydrophilic (flavone glycosides). Phospholipids have lipophilic properties on one side and hydrophilic properties on the other. Phytonutrients therefore often adhere to phospholipids and form so-called phytosomes. Cell membranes (such as the cells in the small intestine and brain) consist of a phospholipid bilayer to enable good absorption of the active ingredients. Research has shown that this Phytosome® technology improves the absorption and bioavailability of phytonutrients.
Unlike liposome technology, the active ingredient in a liposome is located inside a bead surrounded by a double layer of phospholipids. Phytosome® technology is based on true homogenisation, where the active ingredient is not encapsulated. For this reason, the phospholipids required are significantly fewer compared to liposomes.
Indena is a global Italian manufacturer and specialist in phytonutrients. Based on extensive research and technological developments, they offer products of high quality, good base and excellent absorbability.
