L-glutamine capsules for your daily supply
With a proportion of 20%, L-glutamine is the most common amino acid in our body. It is mainly found in muscle cells, where it is also produced.
As a building block for protein synthesis, L-glutamine plays a central role in the metabolism of all plants, animals, fungi and bacteria. It is found in large quantities in wheat protein as well as in dairy products, soya (soya protein) and maize (maize protein).
L-glutamine is important as a precursor of glutathione, glutamic acid and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid).
As a powder, it is particularly suitable for people who prefer to dose glutamine individually or take it in drinks, protein shakes, muesli and the like.
Tasks of L-glutamine
L-glutamine is not an essential amino acid, as our body can produce it itself from L-glutamic acid with the help of the enzyme glutamine synthetase. L-glutamic acid is also an amino acid that is closely related to L-glutamine.
Glutamic acid is formed in the brain from a portion of L-glutamine. Glutamic acid can break down ammonia. L-glutamine is also a precursor of glutathione, the most important antioxidant in our body.
If the body is supplied with too few carbohydrates, the liver can form glucose from the amino acids L-glutamine and L-alanine. If there is no more free L-glutamine available, the liver draws on the reserves in the muscles.
