NAC plus N-acetyl-L-cysteine for sulphur supply and cell protection
The amino acid L-cysteine is a source of sulphur for our body. It is important for the formation of many proteins (e.g. creatine and insulin) and can stabilise their structure by building sulphur bridges.
There are around 500 amino acids in nature. 20 of these amino acids act as building blocks for the proteins found in the human body; they are called "basic amino acids". These basic amino acids are categorised as "essential", "semi-essential" and "non-essential". Cysteine, a semi-essential amino acid, can be synthesised by the body from L-methionine. Under certain conditions, however, this synthesis is not sufficient to cover requirements. Like methionine, cysteine is one of the two fundamental sulphur-containing amino acids. N-acetyl-L-cysteine, or NAC for short, is the acetylated variant of cysteine.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) as a dietary supplement offers several advantages compared to L-cysteine: It is better tolerated, has a higher bioavailability and is less susceptible to oxidation. After ingestion, NAC can be converted into cysteine, which is part of certain body proteins. Cysteine is also one of the precursors of glutathione, which is produced by the biosynthesis of the amino acids cysteine, glycine and glutamic acid.

Notes from EnergyVital
L-cysteine is a sulphur-containing amino acid. This can cause an unpleasant odour to escape when the fresh seal is opened. This is not a negative but a positive quality feature.
