Postbiotics, a new trend in food supplements
Vitals presents a new product containing the world's best-known postbiotic. The EpiCor® ingredient of Vitals Postbiol-EC is characterised by a unique nutrient composition created by the fermentation of nutrients in a natural nutrient medium using baker's yeast. EpiCor® is the product of a company with over 75 years of experience in natural fermentation processes. It is a postbiotic, i.e. a product that consists of non-living microorganisms. In addition to metabolites, EpiCor® also contains inactive (non-living) baker's yeast cells that offer added value. It can therefore be regarded as a so-called "whole food" fermentate, in which all components of the fermentation process are preserved in the end product. A postbiotic can be excellently combined with a prebiotic or probiotic, but is also suitable as a stand-alone product if these are less suitable.
Pre- and probiotics have been used successfully for some time. Knowledge in this area is therefore much more extensive than that of postbiotics. This topic, which is still relatively new, has only recently attracted a great deal of attention. The term "postbiotics" was controversial for a long time, which could lead to confusion in the scientific literature. In 2019, there was a change: an extensive committee of experts from various relevant disciplines (the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics, ISAPP) agreed on a suitable definition. The term "postbiotic", which means "after life", describes the essence of a postbiotic: it is made up of (parts of) microorganisms that are no longer alive, whether or not in combination with the substances they produce (metabolites). In other words, not only the metabolites produced by living microorganisms.
They have a clear difference to prebiotics (dietary fibres that are water-soluble and can be fermented by the intestinal flora) and probiotics (products with living microorganisms). Postbiotics offer several advantages over prebiotics and probiotics: Firstly, the required dosage is usually much lower, and secondly, preparations without live microorganisms have a longer shelf life than those with live microorganisms. However, these different types of preparation can also be combined with each other, as they complement each other well.
EpiCor® Postbiotics are similar to probiotics: Only studies conducted with that specific product (i.e. with a specific microorganism or a combination of microorganisms characterised at strain level in combination with specific metabolites) are meaningful. The yeast mentate EpiCor® from the manufacturer Cargill is one of the postbiotics currently being investigated in most (human) studies. Vitals traditionally attaches great importance to scientific findings, which is why this high-quality raw material was selected for Postbiol-EC.
EpiCor® is produced by a patented process of fermentation with baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). This microorganism is used because of the thousands of years of human experience with the production of food fermented by baker's yeast and its ability to form various nutrients. Saccharomyces converts the nutrients in the natural culture medium under anaerobic (oxygen-free) and strictly controlled culture conditions into a unique fermentate. The yeast cells are then inactivated by a gentle drying process in which the metabolites formed remain undamaged. In addition to non-living yeast cells, the dried yeast fermentate contains proteins, peptides, antioxidants, minerals, polyphenols and soluble and insoluble fibre. It has a unique and constant composition that also includes polysaccharides (beta-1,3/1,6-glucans) and mannans (polymers of mannose). As a result, Postbiol-EC from Vitals can be used as a daily dietary supplement in various situations.
We realise that this product description is not particularly meaningful in terms of health benefits. This is because it is a dietary supplement and not a medicine, and we are legally prohibited from making more far-reaching claims about benefits. But as our customers are responsible and Google-savvy, they can easily find the information they need themselves. It would be helpful, for example, to search for "Epicor" and scientists such as Ruma Singh, F Inchigolo or GS Jensen.

E-Mail: kundendienst@vitals.eu.
