Pycnogenol® is a patented and standardised extract from the outer bark of the maritime pine (Pinus pinaster), a type of fir tree that grows on the south-west coast of France. Traditionally, fir trees are also called pine trees. The extract contains a variety of polyphenols such as oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) and organic acids such as ferulic acid, cinnamic acid and caffeic acid. Pycnogenol® has been used for quite some time. It has been used as a supplement for around 40 years. Today, with over 300 scientific publications, it is one of the most intensively researched nutrients in the world.

The extract has a wide range of biological effects that can be attributed to a multiple mechanism of action. Pycnogenol® has a strong antioxidant effect and can help to protect various body cells from free radicals. It also promotes blood circulation and the flexibility of blood vessels by positively influencing the formation of NO (nitric oxide) from the amino acid L-arginine in the walls of blood vessels. NO plays a role in many regulatory mechanisms, including in the vascular wall. Pycnogenol® supports the stability of the connective tissue in the walls of the veins and capillaries, which is why it can be helpful for cosmetically unattractive veins. It also promotes microcirculation, including in the brain.

Pycnogenol® can also be a valuable supplement for athletes when combined with the right diet and training, as it has antioxidant properties.

Rice starch (Oryza sativa), vegetable capsule (pullulan, from fermented manioc starch), French maritime pine bark extract (Pinus pinaster).

Recommended dosage

Take 1-2 capsules per day with water with a meal.
