Resveratrol helps the plant to withstand external influences and to assert itself under unfavourable growing conditions. Resveratrol is the subject of intensive scientific research. Around 8,000 scientific papers have been published on this subject, including over 200 human studies. Resveratrol primarily protects the heart and blood vessels. Resveratrol works in various ways, including promoting good blood circulation. Resveratrol is also a powerful antioxidant. Resveratrol-VT from Vitals is a product with highly pure resveratrol in the biologically active trans form (as opposed to the cis form, which has little effect). It is produced using a modern fermentation process with baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae).

As an antioxidant, resveratrol can help to protect body tissue and cells from oxidative damage. Its antioxidant effect is based on the fact that resveratrol can donate an electron to a free radical without becoming unstable itself, thus helping to stop the chain reaction of oxidative damage. (See Fig. 1). Among other things, this is crucial for maintaining a healthy heart and flexible blood vessels. Resveratrol also benefits cardiovascular health in other ways. One of these is the promotion of blood circulation. Resveratrol supports the formation of nitric oxide (NO), a molecule that is produced in the blood vessel walls and causes the blood vessels to dilate. Resveratrol also promotes the maintenance of healthy mitochondria, which supports cellular energy production in the cardiovascular system. Finally, resveratrol contributes to a balanced immune response, which is important for normal cardiovascular function.

Biological availability

The body absorbs trans-resveratrol well. In general, however, resveratrol concentrations in the blood are low, although its positive health effects have been observed. The answer to the puzzle lies in the further bioactivation of resveratrol, including in the intestine. Trans-resveratrol is absorbed by the enterocytes of the intestinal wall, where it can be easily converted into active metabolites such as trans-resveratrol sulphate and trans-resveratrol glucuronide. The intestinal flora is also involved in the formation of these metabolites, which are partly responsible for the effect of resveratrol. For these reasons, resveratrol is highly effective despite its apparently low bioavailability. The numerous human studies that have been carried out with resveratrol prove this.

In the production of Veri-te™, they use a yeast fermentation process in which pure resveratrol is produced using baker's yeast.
