Salvestrol® Shield is a plant extract with phytonutrients (phytoalexins)

Plant defence substances known as phytoalexins protect fruit and vegetables against viruses, bacteria, fungi, UV radiation and insects. The plant only produces them in large quantities when there is a need. Salvestrol® Shield provides 350 points per capsule and is used for preservation. Salvestrol® Platinum from Vitals is stronger and contains a particularly high dose: 2000 salvestrol points per capsule.

Why salvestrols are quantified in points: The Salvestrol point system is used to quantify the amount of salvestrol in foods and supplements. The potencies of different salvestrols vary and are not directly related to the quantity in milligrams. The point system scale is based on the calculation of the amount of salvestrol found in a common diet more than 100 years ago. This amount represents 100 points.

Low levels of salvestrols in today's diet

The discoverers of salvestrols made an interesting observation: the salvestrol content in fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs as well as in processed foods varies considerably. The salvestrol content in conventional fruit and vegetables has been significantly reduced by pesticides such as fungicides. This is understandable as the plant no longer needs to protect itself by producing phytoalexins. Over the past 50 to 60 years, the selection and breeding of plants has also contributed to a decline in the cultivation of varieties that naturally have a high content of bitter salvestrols (and therefore require fewer pesticides). When it comes to fruit and vegetables, people also tend to opt for new varieties that are similar in size, shape and colour, while ignoring older varieties with high salvestrol content. Finally, food manufacturers remove salvestrols from (refined) products such as fruit juices and olive oil in order to optimise taste, colour and brilliance. The flavour component becomes more intense without added sugar. Refined food usually contains only small amounts of salvestrols or none at all. The British research group that discovered salvestrols came to the conclusion that today's diet contains 80 to 90 % fewer salvestrols than 50 to 100 years ago. Salvestrols are only present in relevant quantities in unsprayed and unprocessed foods.

Ingredients

Phytonutrient complex consisting of kabocha pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima), grape (Vitis vinifera) and citrus bioflavonoids, rice flour (Oryza sativa), hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (vegetable capsule).

Recommended dosage

Take 1 capsule twice a day with water with a meal.

Store in a cool, dry place away from light (not in the refrigerator).
