Multi-talented selenium - Selenium occurs as a trace element in numerous enzymes and therefore has many different functions in our body, including being a component of antioxidant enzymes, contributing to a normally functioning immune system and normal hair and nails. However, it is also particularly well known for its role in the thyroid gland. There, as a cofactor, it contributes to the conversion of the thyroid hormone T4 into the active T3 form. Selenium is vital, but cannot be produced by the body itself. It must therefore be obtained from food and makes it advisable to pay particular attention to ensuring an adequate supply.

We get most of our selenium from plant-based foods, which in turn have drawn it from the soil. Unfortunately, this is also where the problem lies. This is because the selenium concentration in the soil varies greatly from region to region and even across regions. Another source can be found in animal foods. However, this is understandably not an option for a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Echt Vital Selenium is highly dosed with 200 µg per pellet. The inorganic form (sodium selenite) and the organic bound form (selenomethionine) complement each other perfectly for optimum effectiveness.
