The sense and nonsense of saving paper...

Minimising waste instead of greenwashing!

We like to protect the environment - but without greenwashing!

Minimising waste instead of greenwashing!

Of course we are absolutely in favour of environmental protection, if only because we are a shop for natural products!

That's why a few weeks ago we set up the option to tick whether you want paperless shipping, i.e. without invoice and advertising.

The result was that around 90% of customers wanted this!

That's great at first, but there were also problems: We have to enclose something with the parcels to document the contents, e.g. if the DHL label is damaged. This is also necessary in the daily process, for example, when I print out a stack of orders for my employee, which she packs, somehow she has to know which customer receives which goods.

So I printed out a delivery note for this purpose. The same sheet of paper that I would otherwise have used for the invoice. And since the invoice has a much higher legal value, at least legally, it's a completely nonsensical process!

It's also called greenwashing, i.e. pretending to be environmentally friendly when in fact you're not. Which we naturally want to avoid.

That's why we're now changing the procedure again so that 1. we minimise our impact on the environment and 2. if we have to use paper, we at least do it sensibly.

  • From now on, we will again enclose an invoice, but no longer a delivery note, except in rare cases for complicated orders. If a sheet of paper is necessary for legal and organisational reasons, then at least the most sensible one!

This makes more sense and saves all customers another annoying checkout box to read and tick, and it also reduces the advertising ballast by a few per cent compared to before!
