Vitamin A for the direct supply of the body with retinol

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that is stored in the liver. Each capsule contains 5000 IU of retinol palmitate.

Most food supplements in which vitamin A is specified contain beta-carotene. Vitamin A is then formed in the body from beta-carotene. This has the advantage that an overdose is not possible in this case. The body only takes what it needs from beta-carotene to cover any increased vitamin A requirement.

Important information on dosage

Vitamin A is one of the few vitamins and minerals that need to be dosed more carefully. A greatly increased intake of vitamin A is harmful, especially in pregnant women, which is why many manufacturers avoid offering vitamin A "pure", e.g. as retinol palmitate, and prefer to take the diversions via the carotenoids, which cannot lead to a vitamin A overdose even if the intake is too high. However, this can only happen as a result of gross misuse on the part of the person taking the supplement, and the UL (upper limit) is 3000 µg! The upper limit is the maximum amount that can be taken daily over the long term without harming the body.

Attention! The upper limit for children is lower. If you want to give Natur Vital Vitamin A capsules to people under the age of 18, the recommended intake of 1-2 capsules naturally does not apply!

Upper limits according to age:

1- 3 years: 800 µg
4 - 6 years: 1100 µg
7 - 10 years: 1500 µg
11-14 years: 2000 µg
15- 17 years: 2600 mg

Good reasons in favour of vitamin A instead of beta-carotene!

If you take vitamin A sensibly, i.e. in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended intake or the therapeutic recommendation of your doctor, naturopath or nutritionist and in compliance with the upper limit, it is completely safe. As it is a vitamin, it can even be considered vital. In the body, it has the advantage that it can be utilised immediately and does not have to be converted first. In the visual cells in the eye or in the skin, vitamin A is needed pure, not beta-carotene! The same warnings that apply to smokers do not apply to vitamin A as to beta-carotene. Due to studies on cancer in smokers, suppliers of food supplements have been obliged for years to include a warning if a product contains more than 2 mg beta-carotene. This warning does not exist for vitamin A! There are also studies on the various efficacies of vitamin A and beta-carotene. It was discovered, for example, that the effect on the skin is much more pronounced with vitamin A than when beta-carotene is taken. A product containing pure vitamin A is therefore fully justified from a nutritional point of view. If it is used sensibly in accordance with the recommendations, it is in our opinion preferable to a "beta-carotene vitamin A".
