Laboratory chemical analysis to determine the vitamin B12 concentration in urine
As one of the B vitamins, vitamin B12 is involved in a number of important processes in the body. It contributes to normal energy metabolism, normal function of the nervous system, normal psychological function and normal function of the immune system. Vitamin B12 is mainly found in animal products, which is why people with an animal-free diet are particularly careful to ensure that they have a sufficient supply. As the vitamin is absorbed via the wall of the small intestine, people with chronic intestinal problems are also advised to be careful with their intake.
A simple urine test with subsequent laboratory analysis can determine whether there is a vitamin B12 deficiency. Medivere Vitamin B12 Urine Test analyses the methylmalonic acid status. Methylmalonic acid is an indirect indicator of a vitamin B12 deficiency. If there is too little vitamin B12 in the body, there is an increased release of the acid.
