Melatonin for a good night's sleep

Melatonin is a natural hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain. It is a chemical messenger that is released in the absence of light. This fact is also the reason why melatonin helps to shorten the time it takes to fall asleep and is therefore also known as the "sleep hormone".In its natural state, melatonin levels peak between 2 and 4 a.m. Although melatonin is found in small amounts in plants such as St John's wort, it is also found in trace amounts in some foods such as rice or bananas.... Further advantages of melatonin

The following statement is proven and officially authorised: It helps mitigate the effects of jet lag.

Jet lag is a well-known problem for travellers. It can initially manifest itself in the desire to sleep at any time of the day or night, and then have the opposite effect by losing track of time and causing repeated sleep problems. In such situations, melatonin plays an important role by regulating molecular release.

There is also evidence that melatonin may be helpful when on call. A dose before a period of rest helped people to fall asleep, but if they needed to be at the bedside, for example, their fitness was quickly restored.

What you should consider when buying

There are two main considerations when choosing a melatonin supplement:

  • Firstly, favour a natural, plant-based melatonin with no synthetic derivatives. Plant-derived melatonin, often derived from St John's Wort, is often preferred over synthetic or animal-derived melatonin in terms of quality.

  • Secondly, we recommend opting for a comprehensive formula that contains a variety of active ingredients for the evening routine, e.g. calming herbs.

As always, don't overdo it!

We do not recommend using melatonin in large quantities and habitually over months or years. There is a lot of evidence that melatonin is helpful and natural. However, there is also evidence that it can lead to health problems if it is taken habitually on a daily basis for years. Therefore, as with all natural remedies: The dose makes the poison, in the indicated dosage and only when needed, melatonin is helpful and safe!
