H.pylori belongs to the rod-shaped bacteria and can colonise the stomach of humans. If an infection occurs, this can be the cause of various stomach diseases and trigger an increased release of stomach acid. The consequences of H. pylori colonisation can include type B gastritis, about 75 per cent of stomach ulcers and virtually all duodenal ulcers. In the diagnosis of gastric diseases, the analysis of the stool for the bacterium is therefore a standard procedure today.
