The comprehensive microbiome test
Thanks to the latest technologies and fresh insights, Meinlabtest can use DNA analyses to identify all types of bacteria in your microbiome. Thanks to this technique, a larger number of different types of bacteria can be identified, giving you more information about your health and specific bacteria.
A special package for you that allows you to simply send a small stool sample to the laboratory. All you have to do is activate your test on the website provided. In the meantime, the scientists in Leiden start their work: they map your gut microbiome and carry out a microbiome analysis - using modern, evidence-based methods and small amounts of stool. Unlike other intestinal flora tests, you will receive a detailed and clear report on your microbiome after the analysis. Various images are used to explain which types of bacteria are present and whether their quantity can be considered favourable. Naturally, this report also contains recommendations that you can implement immediately to promote your microbiome and your health.
Microbiome or intestinal flora
Many terms are used interchangeably when referring to intestinal bacteria, such as such as intestinal flora, microbiota or microbiome. Since many people are familiar with the term microbiome, this test of the DNA of intestinal bacteria is also called a microbiome test. Your body's microbiome consists of all the bacteria that live in your gut. In total, there are up to 100 quadrillion different species. The 30 most important species are known as your core microbiota. These 30 species are analysed in this test.
The microbiome in the gut is of great importance for human health. It has an impact on the immune system, supports the prevention of allergies and ensures a proper metabolism. A diverse intestinal flora with a wide range of bacteria is crucial for these processes.
Diseases resulting from a disturbed microbiome
A microbiome that is out of balance can be associated with various diseases. This includes
- Obesity
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
- cardiovascular diseases
- chronic inflammatory bowel disease (e.g. Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis)
- Allergies (e.g. eczema, asthma and hay fever)
- Neurological diseases.
Effects of nutrition on the microbiome:
A healthy intestinal flora is largely shaped and maintained by diet. A varied diet rich in fruit and vegetables, pulses, wholemeal products, nuts and seeds helps to promote a diverse intestinal flora. Dietary fibre, especially plant fibre, promotes butyrate formation by certain bacteria in the intestine - a nutrient that is essential for a healthy intestinal wall.
Types of bacteria in the gut:
The microbiome comprises several groups of bacteria, including Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria and Verrucomicrobia. The effects on health vary depending on the group. Some types of bacteria are particularly important, such as Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Akkermansia Muciniphila. Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, for example, has an immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory effect. Akkermansia Muciniphila contributes to a healthy gut wall and is associated with a reduction in the risk of obesity, bowel cancer and autism.
Analysing the microbiome
Analysing the microbiome can provide useful information on the composition of the intestinal flora. In this way, possible disorders or imbalances can be recognised. Such a test can provide clues as to how the microbiome can be improved to promote health.
To summarise, the microbiome has a significant influence on health. A varied diet supports a diverse gut flora, which is of great importance. Some groups of bacteria are particularly important and analysing the microbiome can help to identify potential problems and take specific action to promote gut health.
The result of your microbiome test
The microbiome is a complex topic, especially if you want to better understand the connection between your gut flora and your health. Your microbiome analysis report explains this complex topic in an understandable way and offers specific lifestyle and dietary recommendations to optimise, maintain or restore your gut flora. After your stool sample has been analysed, you will receive your results online by e-mail.
For Germany only
We would like to point out that this test and the shipping procedures are optimised and pre-franked for Germany. Orders from further afield are problematic because the perishable biological samples may only be in transit for a limited time (maximum 4 days). Customers from other countries can of course try at their own risk, but should the test fail, we decline all responsibility or reimbursement.
