Ubiquinol 50 mg, 60 or 150 softgel capsules

Ubiquinol, the most biologically active variant of Q10

In preparations containing Q10, its oxidised form, ubiquinone, is usually used. After being taken by mouth, oxidised Q10 is largely converted into ubiquinol, the reduced form of Q10. This conversion process is not necessary when using ubiquinol. Since 2006, ubiquinol has been available in ready-to-use form for food supplements. Ubiquinol, which is administered orally, has better absorption and higher bioavailability than ubiquinone. Ubiquinol is a better choice than conventional Q10 in many situations.

Animal and human studies have shown that the administration of ubiquinol results in higher Q10 levels in blood plasma compared to an identical amount of ubiquinone. In addition, research suggests that the differences are greater in older people than in young people. A study in which healthy older people were given 100 mg ubiquinol or 100 mg ubiquinone three times a day found that Q10 levels were twice as high in those who received ubiquinol. Evidence suggests that in certain individuals, replacing ubiquinone with ubiquinol supplementation may lead to even greater differences in plasma Q10 levels.

Internal and external sources of coenzyme Q10

The body obtains coenzyme Q10 both through its own synthesis and through food intake. Dark green vegetables such as broccoli and spinach, nuts and meat are among the foods with the highest concentrations of Q10. Organ meats in particular provide a high proportion of Q10.

A wide range of nutrients is required to produce Q10 in a multi-stage process. Therefore, poor eating habits can easily lead to an inadequate supply of Q10. In addition, the amount of reduced Q10 (ubiquinol) that can be taken in through the daily diet is generally limited. This is because ubiquinol is easily oxidised to ubiquinone during the preparation of food. A healthy diet is necessary to provide the body with sufficient coenzyme Q10. In addition to dietary intake of Q10, supplementation with a Q10 preparation or, even better, a ubiquinol preparation can also be considered.

Food supplements containing coenzyme Q10, such as Kaneka Ubiquinol™, have been around for several decades. Initially, however, these were exclusively preparations based on ubiquinone, the oxidised form of Q10. This is because ubiquinol oxidises easily when exposed to air or light, and as a result, insurmountable difficulties arose when it came to producing a dietary supplement that would preserve the reduced state of the nutrient. However, Kaneka, the Japanese company and supplier of Vital's Ubiquinol, was the first to develop a patented process using modern technology to produce a consistent quality Ubiquinol supplement. In addition, as a Q10 expert with many years of experience, Kaneka can guarantee that Kaneka Ubiquinol™ is completely natural and identical to the body, giving it the highest possible bioavailability.
