The most comprehensive and optimally dosed multivitamin to take twice a day
The multivitamins from Vitals, which are taken daily, are at the top of the Every Day Platinum range. The addition "Platinum" indicates the variant with the highest dose and the most complete content of a series. This also applies to this multivitamin, the optimum dosage of which is two tablets per day. It is the first choice for those who only want the best.
The limited space in a tablet poses a major problem when putting together a multivitamin and mineral supplement. In particular, some important macrominerals such as magnesium, calcium and potassium are often affected. Of course, price is also a major factor. This is often at the expense of important but costly nutrients such as vitamin K2 and Q10. Every day Platinum has been developed to start with two tablets a day. This has created more leeway so that it is not necessary to take several other supplements to achieve the desired daily dose. The result is a multivitamin that not only contains generous amounts of magnesium (100 mg), calcium (200 mg), potassium (300 mg) and vitamin C (400 mg), but also high doses of vitamin K2 (180 μg) and vitamin D3 (50 μg). In addition, the addition of special nutrients such as lutein, zeaxanthin, meso-zeaxanthin, taurine, acetyl-L-carnitine, alpha-lipoic acid, Q10 and PQQ.
For which person(s)
Every Day Platinum is suitable for adults and older people who want to benefit from higher dosages and do not want to take additional supplements such as calcium, magnesium or potassium as well as vitamins C, D or K alongside their multivitamin. Ideal for promoting an active lifestyle (intensive work, occupation with high demands, physical activities, sports) or to do everything possible for healthy ageing.
Based on current data and findings
Every Day Platinum is a thoughtfully designed multivitamin that contains essential nutrients and specialised supplements. The ingredients have been selected using easily absorbable substances and compounds in appropriate proportions and doses. Per nutrient, taking into account the average intake of adults and the elderly in the Netherlands. And taking into account the estimated daily requirement to support or promote optimal health. The recommended daily allowances (RDAs1) have been taken into account, but deviations have been made where necessary on the basis of advancing (orthomolecular) knowledge from (the latest) scientific research. Of course, it is necessary to make a selection, as only a limited amount fits in one tablet and the price must remain within reasonable limits. Everyday Platinum is excellently substantiated, shines in many ways and has proven to be excellent compared to other multivitamins.
1 The term RDA is used here as it is still the most commonly used term, although today it has been replaced by the term NRV (Nutrient Reference Value). These are legal reference values defined by the European Commission. These guide values provide an indication of the average amount of vitamins and minerals required by an adult. No distinction is made regardless of age, gender or special circumstances. The level of vitamins and minerals in a food supplement is shown on the label as a percentage (%) of the NRV. However, the NRV values may differ from the recommended amounts set by health authorities.
B vitamins in the ideal form and quantity
The B vitamins in Jeden Tag Platinum are present in sufficient but acceptable amounts. The daily requirement as well as the average intake and its distribution have been thoroughly analysed. In addition to the latest scientific findings and reliable upper limits, the body's ability to metabolise the various B vitamins has also been taken into account.
The biologically active (co-enzymatic) forms of vitamins B2 (riboflavin-5'-phosphate), B6 (pyridoxal-5'-phosphate), B12 (methyl- and adenosylcobalamin) and folic acid (5-methyltetrahydrofolate-glucosamine salt) are contained in Jeden Tag Platinum. These are the forms utilised by the body and research shows that they have a higher bioavailability in the body.
Folic acid as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate
Folic acid (pteroylmonoglutamic acid), which is often used in supplements for stability, is a synthetic form that does not occur naturally. It is present in food as folate. The body has to convert folic acid into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). Research has shown that in a considerable number of people this complicated conversion process is far from optimal. Supplementing with 5-MTHF eliminates this problem.
Platinum utilises the superior form of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate bound to glucosamine salt (under the brand name Quatrefolic®) every day. This binding with plant glucosamine salt allows the biologically active form to remain stable and ensures optimal absorption. Studies show the superior water solubility, stability and bioavailability of Quatrefolic®. 5-MTHF can also cross the blood-brain barrier, in contrast to the "normal" (synthetic) folic acid form.
Vitamin B12 in the form of methyl- and adenosylcobalamin
The absorption of vitamin B12 from food is a complicated process. Evidence also suggests that the RDA (or NRV) of 2.5 µg per day is too low and that the requirement in healthy adults and older people can vary and exceed 20 µg per day. Every day Platinum contains 40 µg of vitamin B12 in the biologically active forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. This is due to the safety of vitamin B12 supplementation and the fact that it is sometimes difficult to absorb B12 from food and supplements.
Cyanocobalamin, a cheaper and synthetic version of vitamin B12 that does not occur naturally and must be converted into active forms by the body, is a component of many multivitamins and B12 products. During this process, the cyanide component is separated from the cobalamin, which must then be broken down by the body. Research has shown that the bioavailability of vitamin B12 in the forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin is higher than that of cyanocobalamin.
Vitamin D
In recent years, European government authorities have recognised that the value for adequate vitamin D intake from food (15 μg) should be higher and that the maximum permissible dose (100 μg) could be increased. In the Netherlands, people are still cautious and believe that 10 μg would be sufficient and that the upper limit should be 75 μg. Strangely enough, the RDA/NRV is still 5 μg. However, the importance of higher doses has long been recognised in the orthomolecular world. It is recommended by leading experts in the field of vitamin D that calcidiol levels should be at least 75 nmol/l. It is estimated that a daily oral dose of 25-75 μg of vitamin D3 is required to maintain such a vitamin D level. Therefore, Every Day Platinum contains a generous amount of 50 μg per two tablets.
Vitamin K
Jeden Tag Platinum contains 45 μg vitamin K1 and 180 μg vitamin K2. The liver predominantly absorbs vitamin K1 and activates the coagulation factors, while vitamin K2 is distributed to a much greater extent in the body tissues. The regular RDA for vitamin K is based on the amount required for normal blood coagulation. However, the ideal dosage for the other essential functions of vitamin K has not yet been taken into account. Instead, for example, it is important that the calcium is absorbed correctly and ends up in the right place - in the bones. Even in the current references, no distinction is made between vitamin K1 and K2. The absorption of vitamin K2 is 10 times more effective and its bioavailability is much greater than that of vitamin K1. For this reason, vitamin K2 is much more effective and superior to vitamin K1 in achieving optimal vitamin K levels. When certain vitamin K-dependent enzymes are activated, the effect of vitamin K2 is also significantly greater than that of vitamin K1. The activated enzymes ensure that the calcium reaches the bones. Research has shown that the ideal daily amount is 180 μg of vitamin K2.
Stability of vitamin K2
It appears that vitamin K2 is a very sensitive substance. Especially together with magnesium and/or calcium, the content of this vitamin in a capsule or tablet decreases rapidly. It is a real challenge to use vitamin K2 in a product with high doses of calcium and/or magnesium. That's why Vitals uses a high quality K2 supplement, branded K2VITAL™ DELTA, which is stable even in a formula with many of these minerals. A patented microencapsulation process protects the fat-soluble K2 particles with two layers (including gum arabic and starch) from reacting with other ingredients. In an independent laboratory, Vitals tested the stability of K2VITAL™ DELTA as well as other vitamin K2 brands, especially in combination with the ingredients used in Vitals products. It was concluded that K2 protection is essential, that the K2 content of K2VITAL™ DELTA remained constant and that it was superior to other K2 ingredients.
Natural calcium and magnesium from the sea in high doses
This multivitamin is characterised by the fact that it contains high doses of calcium and magnesium, making it unnecessary to take them separately. It's that simple. The minerals are from the Aquamin® brand and have their origin in the sea - which also makes them special. Aquamin® magnesium is extracted from the seawater of the Irish Sea and studies have shown that it is particularly easy for the body to assimilate. In addition to around 35% elemental magnesium, the raw material also contains small amounts of over 70 trace elements. The calcium content (aquamin calcium) comes from the red algae Lithothamnium calcareum. This type of algae absorbs minerals and trace elements from the sea and stores them. It has a beautiful red-pink colour in nature, but when it dies it calcifies and turns white or light grey. Only calcified red algae from the waters along the Icelandic coast are harvested. In addition to 32% calcium, the raw material also contains 3% magnesium and small amounts of over 70 trace elements. Another reason for the better absorption and the impressive studies could be the synergistic effect of the natural trace element profile of this calcium and magnesium.
With potassium
When choosing a multivitamin and mineral supplement, potassium is often listed as one of the minerals that is considered last. This is due to the high daily requirement of potassium (approximately 3500 mg for adults) and the fact that one tablet does not provide enough space for this amount. Therefore, potassium and its amounts are often not or only slightly present in multivitamin supplements. But Every Day Platinum also contains 300 mg of potassium! It is very important and quite unique. In addition to the numerous regular pieces of advice to keep an eye on salt (sodium) intake, orthomolecular studies and articles also recommend considering an increase in potassium intake. In addition, the latest food consumption study found that adults in the Netherlands consume an average of around 3200 mg per day, while the recommendation is 3500 mg. It is therefore not an unnecessary luxury to take an extra 300 mg of potassium every day via a multivitamin supplement. Potassium has a positive effect on maintaining normal blood pressure, although this effect is more pronounced in people with high sodium consumption. It is crucial for muscle contraction and the transmission of nerve impulses, which is why it is important for proper muscle function and the nervous system.
Iron, zinc, copper and manganese in the form of amino acid chelate (bisglycinate)
Amino acid chelates in the form of bisglycinates are selected for the minerals iron, zinc, copper and manganese, whereby each magnesium particle is powerfully bound (chelated) to two glycine molecules. Minerals in this compound form reach the small intestine well and are absorbed very effectively. They are also gentle on the stomach, which can be particularly beneficial in the case of iron (Ferrochel®). Vitals makes a conscious selection of amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, which are labelled with the TRAACS® brand, which stands for "The Real Amino Acid Chelate System". This brand serves to differentiate itself from other amino acid chelates that may be inferior or unstable. Albion holds over 100 patents worldwide that protect the process, science and structure of its amino acid chelated minerals.
Choline in generous quantities
Choline has been an integral part of multivitamin supplements for some time. But usually in low doses (10-30 mg), as there was not much knowledge about it. But this is changing! In 2012, the European Commission issued three health claims for choline, which apply to a dose of at least 82.5 mg. It is important for normal fat metabolism and homocysteine metabolism as well as for normal liver function. In the USA, an RDA of 550 mg/day was set in 2016, based on clinical studies to determine the daily requirement. The EFSA declared in 2016 that choline is an essential nutrient, but no RDA has yet been set for it. The average intake was set at 400 mg per day, based on average intakes in European countries and not on the US study. For adults in Europe, the average intake varies between 291 and 468 mg per day. There is good reason to include a generous amount of choline in a daily multivitamin supplement. The VitaCholine® brand provides a total of 170 mg of choline in Jeden Tag Platinum. This brand is synonymous with high quality and extensive research has been conducted in conjunction with it.
Lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin
In addition to 10 mg lutein and 2 mg zeaxanthin, Every Day Platinum also offers 10 mg meso-zeaxanthin, which is a speciality and is based on current research results. These are natural carotenoids that occur in high concentrations in the retina (retina) and the macula lutea (yellow spot). Lutein and zeaxanthin are substances that the body cannot produce itself. It is therefore dependent on their intake through food. They can be found in green leafy vegetables and in red, yellow and orange-coloured fruit and vegetables. Meso-zeaxanthin is only found in minimal quantities in food (e.g. in prawns, salmon skin and trout skin and meat). It is mainly formed in the retina by converting lutein through an enzymatic reaction. However, it can be effectively consumed through food supplements.
Ubiquinone
Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a substance found in the body and in the mitochondria ("power stations") of every cell. The free translation of "ubiquinone" is "present everywhere". The body's own production of coenzyme Q10 gradually decreases with age. The daily dose of Jeden Tag Platinum is therefore 50 mg.
Taurine (an organic compound)
In adults, taurine is a semi-essential nutrient that is mainly synthesised in the liver and brain from the sulphur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine; vitamin B6 is involved in this conversion. As the body's own synthesis is limited, dietary intake is important for a good taurine status, especially when there is an increased need for taurine. As taurine is mainly found in meat, fish and poultry, vegetarians and vegans are more likely to have an insufficient intake.
Acetyl-L-carnitine
Carnitine is mainly found in (red) meat and to a much lesser extent in plant-based foods. Depending on requirements, carnitine can be converted into acetyl-L-carnitine and vice versa. Carnitine is synthesised in the liver, kidneys and brain from the amino acids lysine and methionine, with vitamin C, iron, vitamin B6 and niacin acting as cofactors. The advantage of supplementing with acetyl-L-carnitine compared to L-carnitine is that it penetrates the blood-brain barrier more easily.
Alpha-lipoic acid
Alpha-lipoic acid is a fatty, sulphur-containing acid that is found in the mitochondria of all cells. It is soluble in both water and fat, which is an essential property. The body produces alpha-lipoic acid in small quantities. It is also found in small quantities in foods such as broccoli, liver and spinach.
PQQ
Pyrroloquinoline quinone disodium salt (PQQ) is a substance that was discovered in 1964 and is found in small quantities in fermented foods such as nattō and tofu, eggs, breast milk and selected herbs, vegetables and fruits. The body also produces minimal quantities. Everyday Platinum utilises PQQ, which is derived from natural fermentation.
