Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Optimum nutrient intake!
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is very important to eat nutrient-rich foods so that mother and child are well nourished. Folic acid, iron, iodine and omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) in particular are needed more. Folic acid is essential for cell formation, while iron helps to transport oxygen in the blood. Iodine is important for the thyroid gland and mental development, and DHA is crucial for the baby's brain and eyes. Vitamin D, calcium and zinc are also good for bone development. A good diet, enriched with good oils (such as linseed oil, fish oil) and green leafy vegetables, forms the basis, whereby dietary supplements can be helpful after consultation... Read more

Medicinal plants during pregnancy
Medicinal plants can improve your well-being during pregnancy, but you should choose them carefully. Gentle teas such as camomile, lemon balm, lavender and rooibos are considered safe and soothing. Small amounts of ginger can help with frequent complaints in the first trimester. From the second trimester onwards, nettle or dandelion are good for kidney function, while teas made from raspberry leaves are often only used towards the end of pregnancy (from around the 36th week). Herbs that have a strong laxative effect or trigger contractions, as well as essential oils such as sage, rosemary and verbena, should be avoided.
Nutrients and herbs during breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is a time of intensive giving and taking, and iron is still very important. To stimulate milk production, certain herbs such as fennel, aniseed and caraway are helpful. On the other hand, sage and peppermint should be avoided as they can reduce the amount of milk produced. As a general rule: always use medicinal plants and teas in small quantities and consult an expert if in doubt.
Important instructions for use
Food supplements (such as vitamin A) should be taken under supervision to prevent an overdose. With medicinal herbs, it is important to choose a low dose and ensure good quality. A targeted intake of vitamins, minerals and certain herbs can support this special phase of life in a healthy and natural way.
