Astaxanthin: high dose per capsule

Yellow to reddish pigments that occur naturally in plants and some microorganisms are carotenoids. They play a crucial role in the transfer of energy during photosynthesis. They also protect these organisms from the harmful effects of sunlight. Astaxanthin, a remarkable carotenoid with a bright red colour, is produced by plankton, algae and some plants, fungi and bacteria in nature. Astaxanthin is found in particularly high quantities in the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis (also the source of Vitals' Astamax).

Astaxanthin, which enters the food chain via algae and plankton, is responsible for the pink pigment in aquatic animals such as salmon, trout, shrimp, crab, lobster and crayfish as well as in some birds, such as the flamingo. Astaxanthin acts as a kind of vitamin-like substance for these animals. Thanks to its unique properties, astaxanthin can occupy the ideal hydrophilic and hydrophobic position in the lipid bilayer of cell membranes and mitochondrial membranes.

Vitals has selected AstaReal® from the Swedish company AstaReal, a pioneer and expert in natural astaxanthin, as its astaxanthin supplier. AstaReal is the first company in the world to develop and produce astaxanthin from Haematococcus pluvialis. Over 40 human clinical trials have been conducted to investigate AstaReal®. AstaReal utilises an exceptional manufacturing process that ensures that astaxanthin is found in its purest state and in the highest concentrations of the best quality. AstaReal® is not a food supplement with a concentrated effect, but is regarded as a "whole food". This is because algae with astaxanthin are harvested at the ideal time and fully utilised. In contrast, in other (Hawaiian) manufacturing processes, where algae are cultivated in open tanks, the astaxanthin must be extracted from the algae to prevent contamination with undesirable microorganisms.

High dose

Astamax provides at least 6 mg of astaxanthin per softgel capsule - although research often recommends higher doses; it also contains the antioxidants vitamin C and vitamin E.

Sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus), bovine gelatine (softgel capsule), Haematococcus pluvialis (green algae; contains astaxanthin), L-ascorbic acid, humectant (glycerol), stabiliser (beeswax), purified water, d-alpha-tocopherol, emulsifier (sunflower lecithin).

Recommended dosage

Take 1 softgel capsule per day with water with a meal.

Notes from the manufacturer

This food supplement is not suitable for children under 14 years of age. Do not use in combination with other products containing astaxanthin.
