Hyaluron
Hyaluron is a component of connective tissue and synovial fluid. It has the valuable ability to bind water. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that occurs naturally in our body. Hyaluronic acid is known from anti-ageing cosmetic products. Its main function is to provide moisture to the skin and thus plump it up. However, its production slows with increasing age, which is why there is interest in increasing its external supply.... Read more

What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan and first discovered in 1934, is a naturally occurring molecule in our body, particularly in the dermis (skin layer).
This molecule acts like an effective sponge, as it can bind up to a thousand times its own weight in water. Hyaluronic acid therefore plays a crucial role in maintaining moisture, firmness and elasticity of the skin.
However, with advancing age the body's own production decreases (around 6% every ten years). It is estimated that by the age of 50 half of the original reserves have already been lost... This leads to visible signs of skin ageing, such as the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, crow's feet and expression lines.
Different types of hyaluronic acid
Two variants of hyaluronan are found in the human body: high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid.
High-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid forms a protective barrier that supplies moisture to the outer layer of the skin.
Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid penetrates deeper into the epidermis and contributes to internal hydration. It helps to revitalise the skin while stimulating the natural production of hyaluronic acid!
