It contains only freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria that are listed in the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ). What exactly are lactic acid bacteria?

Lactic acid bacteria are an amazing natural phenomenon. They are one of the few organisms that can tolerate little or no oxygen. In order to survive, they have developed fermentation as their own method of energy production. This involves the conversion of sugar and other energy sources into lactic acid. The resulting acidic environment inhibits the growth of harmful germs.

The following types of lactic acid bacteria exist:

• Lactobacilli are oxygen-tolerant and require a variety of nutrients (such as sugar, carbohydrates and proteins) for their growth and development. Some species are even able to produce vitamins.
