Postbiol-EC, 60 capsules

Postbiotics, the new trend in dietary supplements

Vitals presents a new product containing the world’s best-known postbiotic. The EpiCor® ingredient in Vitals Postbiol-EC is characterised by a unique nutrient composition that is produced by fermenting nutrients in a natural growth medium using baker’s yeast. EpiCor® is the product of a company with over 75 years' experience in natural fermentation processes. It is a postbiotic, i.e. a product made from non-living microorganisms. EpiCor® contains, in addition to metabolic products (metabolites), also inactivated (non-living) baker’s yeast cells, which provide added value. It can therefore be regarded as a so-called “whole” fermentate, in which all components of the fermentation process are preserved in the final product. A postbiotic can be excellently combined with a prebiotic or probiotic, but it is also suitable as a standalone product when those are less appropriate.

Prebiotics and probiotics have been used successfully for some time. The knowledge in this field is therefore much more extensive than that about postbiotics. This relatively new topic has only recently received much attention. The term “postbiotics” was long controversial, which could lead to confusion in the scientific literature. In 2019 there was a change: a large panel of experts from various relevant disciplines (the International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics, ISAPP) agreed on a suitable definition. The term “postbiotic”, meaning “after life”, describes the nature of a postbiotic: it is composed of (parts of) no-longer-living microorganisms, either in combination with the substances they produced (metabolites) or not. So not only the metabolites produced by living microorganisms.

They show a clear distinction from prebiotics (fibres that are water-soluble and can be fermented by the gut flora) and probiotics (products with live microorganisms). Compared with pre- and probiotics, postbiotics offer some advantages: on the one hand, the required dosage is generally much lower; on the other hand, preparations without live microorganisms are more shelf-stable than those with live microorganisms. These different types of preparations can, however, also be combined, as they complement each other well.

EpiCor® With postbiotics it is similar to probiotics: only studies conducted with this specific product (i.e. with a particular microorganism or combination of microorganisms characterised at strain level, together with certain metabolites) are conclusive. The yeast fermentate EpiCor® from the manufacturer Cargill is one of the postbiotics currently investigated in most (human) studies. Scientific evidence has traditionally been highly valued at Vitals, which is why this high-quality raw material was chosen for Postbiol-EC.

EpiCor® is produced by a patented fermentation process using baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Because of humanity’s millennia-long experience in producing foods fermented with baker’s yeast and its ability to form a range of nutrients, this microorganism is used. Saccharomyces converts the nutrients in the natural growth medium into a unique fermentate under anaerobic (oxygen-free) and strictly controlled culture conditions. The yeast cells are then inactivated by a gentle drying process that leaves the metabolites intact. The dried yeast fermentate contains, in addition to non-living yeast cells, among other things protein, peptides, antioxidants, minerals, polyphenols and soluble and insoluble fibres. It has a unique and consistent composition that also includes polysaccharides (beta-1,3/1,6-glucans) and mannans (polymers of mannose). Because of this, Vitals Postbiol-EC can be used as a daily dietary supplement in a variety of situations.

We are aware that this product description is not particularly informative with regard to health benefits. This is because it is a dietary supplement and not a medicinal product; broader claims about benefits are legally prohibited for us. But since our customers are autonomous and Google-savvy, they can easily find the information they want themselves. It would be helpful, for example, to search for "EpiCor" and researchers such as Ruma Singh, F Inchigolo or GS Jensen.

Vitals, our new brand from 2025

We are constantly on the lookout for brands that represent our ideals: highest quality, the consistent omission of unnecessary additives such as titanium dioxide or porcine gelatin, excellent value for money and absolute reliability in delivery to us and thus to our customers.
This is very difficult because such companies are extremely rare among the mass of dietary supplement manufacturers now on the market. But we have once again managed to find one with Vitals from the Netherlands!

Address of the manufacturer: Vitals Voedingssupplementen BV, Pieter Lieftinckweg 29, 1505 HX Zaandam, Netherlands. E-mail: kundendienst@vitals.eu.
