Vitamin B12 highly available as methylcobalamin
Vitamin B12 spray is optimally tailored to the preferences and needs of children. With the sweetness from xylitol it is tasty and the spray form makes it easy to use, even with swallowing difficulties. Methylcobalamin is the form required by the body and is absorbed far better without conversion. High‑strength, good absorption already through the oral mucosa. In a dose suitable for children.
Quality is decisive
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) was only discovered in 1948. It is a very complex, large molecule and is required for the development of all cells in the body. Nerve cells in particular suffer from a deficiency. The best‑selling B12 is the cheap cyanocobalamin. Although this is effective, it is not optimal because it must first be converted for uptake. In the process the somewhat critical cyanide compound is released (better known as hydrogen cyanide).
A major advantage of B12 in spray form is that, through the nebulised application into the mouth, a large part of the vitamin B12 is already absorbed immediately via the oral mucosa.
Methylcobalamin is the form required by the body and is absorbed far better without conversion.
The preservative potassium sorbate is harmless for children.

This generally applies to sorbates. Not to be confused with the harmful benzoates, which occur in foods and foodstuffs for the same purpose but are not used by responsible manufacturers.
Why B12 for children?
The same applies to children: with a vegan and partly with a vegetarian diet, too little vitamin B12 is often taken in.
This also applies to breastfed infants. According to a study (http://sciencenordic.com/exclusive-breastfeeding-may-cause-b12-deficiency-babies) from Denmark, breast milk contains enough vitamin B12 up to the fourth month of breastfeeding, after which the content drops sharply.
It is certainly good, especially for children at risk of allergies, to breastfeed for as long as possible and to introduce allergy‑triggering foods such as cow’s milk late.
But supplementation with vitamin B12 seems sensible in this case. Unlike very high‑strength products for adults, Energybalance vitamin B12 spray for children contains only 3 µg. Thus the risk of overdose with this product for children is not present.
How can a deficiency in infants be recognised? We are not allowed to give detailed information here, as a product description must not be a medical treatise, but in this study one can find some indications on how it can be recognised:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3470622/
Interesting in this article is the note that already ill children are treated intramuscularly with 1000 µg B12.
For adults even very high doses up to 4000 µg are harmless; unfortunately there are no studies for children and infants.
But this type of treatment with 1000 µg by injection suggests that Energybalance B12 spray for children certainly cannot cause an overdose.

Is xylitol harmful to health?
Until now xylitol was known and popular as a healthier sugar alternative; it also has a health claim that it has been proven to reduce the risk of tooth decay.
According to a new study, there is now evidence that it increases the risk of thrombosis and thus the risk of, for example, heart attacks: Xylitol is prothrombotic and associated with cardiovascular risk
Two things should be noted here:
- The amount consumed. In the study, the subjects had to consume 30 g of xylitol.
- The author of the study himself points out that further health circumstances must be considered. Here is a quote from Die Zeit, online article of 16 June 2024: “Witkowski says that probably nobody needs to be immediately afraid of having a heart attack because they eat plums or use a toothpaste with xylitol. Rather, it is likely the combination of risk factors such as overweight, diabetes and high blood pressure together with high concentrations of xylitol that is the problem.”
From this we conclude:
- Small amounts of xylitol in the milligram range, such as one would consume with a sweetened lozenge for vitamin B12, we consider completely harmless!
- Larger amounts, such as those you might consume with sweetened alkaline drinks or similar, can be recommended to people who have no risk of cardiovascular disease. People who are already overweight, have diabetes or high blood pressure, or who have a family history of a notable clustering of thromboses or conditions such as heart attack or stroke, should avoid them.
