Potassium alum crystal is a mineral that has long been used, particularly in Asia, as a mild deodorant and for killing germs. It is a compound of potassium and aluminium, in which the aluminium is firmly bound and cannot penetrate the skin.

Sweating is a natural bodily process that helps to regulate body temperature. Sweat itself has almost no odour; it is only bacteria on damp areas of the skin that produce the substances responsible for unpleasant odours.

Unlike antiperspirants, which affect the sweat glands and reduce sweating, potassium alum crystal works as follows: it forms a thin mineral film on the skin, which prevents the spread of bacteria. This reduces body odour without inhibiting natural sweating.

Does it contain aluminium or not?

It does not contain pure aluminium or soluble aluminium compounds that the body could absorb. The aluminium is firmly locked within a crystal structure; it cannot be utilised by the body and cannot penetrate the skin.
Unlike aluminium salts in antiperspirants (such as aluminium chlorohydrate), potassium alum does not release any free aluminium.
Therefore, products containing potassium alum can correctly be labelled as ‘aluminium-free’, as they do not contain any potentially harmful or toxic forms of aluminium.

Directions for use

Lightly wet the tip of the crystal and gently apply it to cleansed skin. After use, rinse under running water and allow to dry before putting it away.
