Magnesium threonate – magnesium bound to the amino acid L-threonic acid
Magnesium threonate is a mineral salt consisting of magnesium bound to the amino acid L-threonic acid. Magnesium L-threonate has the unique ability to cross the human blood–brain barrier and thereby increase magnesium levels in the brain.
For this reason, Brain-Mag® is not just a magnesium supplement, but a 'brain-friendly' dietary supplement.
Magnesium is generally an essential mineral that plays a key role in over 300 processes required for a healthy body. However, not all forms of magnesium are readily absorbed by the brain.
Magnesium in its L-threonate form, however, is, precisely because of its ability to cross the blood–brain barrier, readily absorbed. This means that its effect primarily occurs in that environment.
