Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) was only discovered in 1948. It is a very complex, large molecule and is required for the development of all the body's cells. Nerve cells are particularly affected by a deficiency. The best-selling B12 is the cheap cyanocobalamin. Although this is effective, it is not optimal, as it must first be converted for absorption. In the process the not entirely harmless cyano compound (better known as hydrocyanic acid/prussic acid) is released.
Methylcobalamin is the form required by the body and is absorbed far better without conversion.

Who needs to be mindful of their Vitamin B12?

Vegans and, in some cases, vegetarians who avoid consuming milk and eggs must pay particular attention to their vitamin B12 supply. Vitamin B12 is absorbed in the large intestine. A considerable portion is, however, only produced by the large-intestine bacteria.
People with chronic intestinal problems (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease) therefore need to be very attentive to their vitamin B12 supply, as do people without a large intestine (e.g. after bowel cancer surgery).
A major advantage of B12 in spray form is that by spraying into the mouth a large proportion of the vitamin B12 is already immediately absorbed via the oral mucosa.
