To characterise and assess the entire gut microbiome

The gut microbiome refers to the totality of microorganisms present in the gut. It has a decisive influence on human wellbeing and health. As numerous studies have shown, an imbalance in the gut microbiome can be associated with various diseases. These include, for example, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, bowel cancer, calcium oxalate kidney stones, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and neurological disorders.

Analysis of the gut microbiome is carried out using DNA sequencing (next-generation sequencing). This enables the identification of almost all bacteria known to date. DNA sequencing allows for a more precise assessment of the effects of an individual’s highly complex microbiota on resistance to colonisation, digestive processes, the absorption of nutrients and vitamins, and immunity. This testing method is based on molecular biology, which means that even anaerobic bacteria that cannot be cultured can be detected to the highest technical standard.

This test also includes the parameters of the Gut Health Check, including zonulin in the stool. The Gut Health Check involves an analysis of the gut microbiota status, an assessment of digestive performance and capacity, and an evaluation of the condition and function of the intestinal mucosa and the gut-associated immune system.

The molecular genetic analysis comprises the
