Laboratory chemical analysis of urine for various substances to identify disorders of various metabolic pathways

Determination of vanillylmandelic acid, homovanillic acid, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, tryptophan, xanthurenic acid, L-kynurenine, kynurenic acid, quinolinic acid, as well as the L-kynurenine/tryptophan ratio and the kynurenic acid/L-kynurenine ratio calculated from these.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid which, under physiological conditions, is metabolised into the neurohormones serotonin and melatonin. In the gastrointestinal tract, serotonin influences motility, secretion and pain perception. Low melatonin levels are associated with sleep disorders. Tryptophan is physiologically broken down by hepatic tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO) via the oxidative kynurenine metabolic pathway. If disturbances occur in this metabolic process (usually due to a micronutrient deficiency), this can manifest itself in various ways.

The metabolites analysed in this profile allow conclusions to be drawn about neurotransmitters, which in turn are involved in numerous pathological and physiological processes in the body. They may have neuroprotective, neurotoxic, pro-inflammatory, anti-inflammatory, oxidising, antioxidant and/or immunomodulatory effects.

Thus, by analysing the metabolites or their ratios to one another, conclusions can be drawn about possible causes. These include, for example, vitamin B6 and vitamin B3 deficiency, micronutrient deficiency, reduced amino acid intake, medication use or impaired fructose absorption in the gut. Consequences may include depressive moods, digestive disorders, sleep disturbances, anxiety and fatigue.

The urine analysis carried out as part of the Organix® Neuro Test therefore makes it possible to identify a potential link between physical causes and psychological effects.

How does the ordering process work?

Once you have placed your order, the test pack you have chosen will be sent to you along with detailed instructions. You place your sample in a sample container, send it in the provided envelope to Mediveres’ partner laboratory, GANZIMMUN Diagnostics GmbH, and will receive your results, including an assessment of your profile, within 5–7 days.
