PCR detection of parasites in stool samples

The new multiplex real-time PCR offers significantly higher sensitivity compared with previous immunological or microscopic methods of parasite detection. This innovative screening method enables a distinction to be made between the various pathogens, which is crucial for determining the appropriate treatment!

Parasites can cause severe diarrhoea and intense abdominal pain, particularly when the immune system is weakened by stress or illness. In some cases, the infection may also spread to other organs. If left untreated, a parasitic infection can therefore lead to severe illness.

Parasitic infections often occur in tropical or subtropical regions. It can take several years for the first symptoms to appear, during which time the infection may be passed on to others.

With our new PCR test (PCR = polymerase chain reaction), we can now offer you even more reliable and accurate tests for parasites.

This parasitic PCR stool test examines the following parameters:

*According to Section 7 of the IfSG, certain parasites must be reported by the laboratory and the doctor. This reporting obligation applies to Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium spp. Entamoeba histolytica is subject to mandatory reporting in some federal states, such as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony and Thuringia. Please note that, in the event of a positive result for a notifiable parasitic infection, the GANZIMMUN laboratory is legally obliged to pass on your contact details to the relevant public health authority.

How does the ordering process work?

Once you have placed your order, the test pack you have chosen will be sent to you along with detailed instructions. You place your sample in a sample vial, send it in the provided envelope to Mediveres’ partner laboratory, GANZIMMUN Diagnostics GmbH, and will receive your results, including an assessment of your profile, within 5–7 days.
