Laboratory analysis to determine the vitamin B12 concentration in urine

Vitamin B12, as one of the B vitamins, is involved in a variety of important processes in the body. It contributes to a normal energy metabolism, normal nervous system function, normal psychological function and normal immune system function. Vitamin B12 is predominantly found in animal products, so people following an animal-free diet in particular pay attention to ensuring an adequate supply. Whether a vitamin B12 deficiency is present can be determined by a simple urine test followed by laboratory analysis. The Medivere vitamin B12 urine test analyses the methylmalonic acid status. Methylmalonic acid is an indirect indicator of a vitamin B12 deficiency. If too little vitamin B12 is present in the body, increased excretion of the acid occurs.
