With methylfolate, better than folic acid and renatured by WholeFood
Methylfolate is a form of folate. Because it does not first have to be converted from folic acid by the body, it is absorbed directly without digestion and is therefore particularly valuable.
For some people this is necessary because their body cannot convert folic acid to MHTF.
According to Pharmazeutische Zeitung online (issue 11/2009), this genetic defect affects, for example, every second woman. It was already discovered in 1995 by P. Frosst et al. (Source: A candidate genetic risk factor for vascular disease: a common mutation in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, Nature Genetics 10, 111 - 113 (1995)). For the people affected, it would therefore make no sense to take "normal" folic acid supplements.
Nor can they utilise the folic acid in food unless it is present as 5-MTHF.
For further questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist, even if you would like to have such a genetic test performed. If that is too time-consuming, simply take 5-MHTF instead of "normal" folic acid, because this is utilised optimally by everyone, whether with or without the genetic defect!
