Vitamin A for direct supply of the body with retinol

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that is stored in the liver. Each capsule contains 5000 IU retinyl palmitate.

Most supplements that state vitamin A on the label contain beta-carotene. Vitamin A is then formed in the body from beta-carotene. This has the advantage that an overdose is not possible in this case. The body only uses as much of the beta-carotene as it needs to cover any increased vitamin A requirement.

Important notes on dosage

Vitamin A is one of the few vitamins and minerals that should be dosed with a little more caution. A markedly increased intake of vitamin A is harmful, especially in pregnant women. For this reason, many manufacturers avoid offering vitamin A “pure”, for example as retinyl palmitate, and prefer to take the detour via carotenoids, which cannot lead to a vitamin A overdose even if taken in excess. However, this can only occur as a result of gross misuse by the users. The UL (Upper Limit) is 3000 µg! Upper limit is the amount which may be taken daily over the long term without harming the body.

Warning! The upper limit for children is lower. If Natur Vital vitamin A capsules are to be given to persons under 18 years of age, the recommended intake of 1–2 capsules of course does not apply!

Upper limits by age:

1–3 years: 800 µg
4–6 years: 1100 µg
7–10 years: 1500 µg
11–14 years: 2000 µg
15–17 years: 2600 mg

Good reasons for vitamin A instead of beta-carotene!

When vitamin A is taken sensibly, i.e. in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended intake or the therapeutic recommendation of your doctor, alternative practitioner or nutritionist and observing the Upper Limit, it is completely safe. As it is a vitamin, it can even be regarded as essential to life. In the photoreceptor cells of the eye or in the skin, vitamin A is required in its pure form, not beta-carotene! Vitamin A is also not subject to the same warnings as beta-carotene that apply to smokers. Because of the study data on cancer in smokers, suppliers of dietary supplements have for years been obliged to include a warning if a product contains more than 2 mg of beta-carotene. There is no such warning for vitamin A! There are also studies on the different efficacies of vitamin A and beta-carotene. For example, it has been found that the effect on the skin is considerably more pronounced with vitamin A than when taking beta-carotene. Thus a product containing pure vitamin A has full nutritional justification. If used sensibly according to the recommendations, in our opinion it is preferable to a “beta-carotene–vitamin A” product.
