It contains exclusively freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria that are listed in the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ). What exactly are lactic acid bacteria?

Lactic acid bacteria are an amazing natural phenomenon. They are among the few organisms that tolerate little or no oxygen. To survive, they have developed fermentation as their own method of energy production. In this process sugar and other energy substrates are converted into lactic acid. The resulting acidic environment inhibits the growth of harmful germs.

The following types of lactic acid bacteria exist:

• Lactobacilli are aerotolerant and require a variety of nutrients (such as sugars, carbohydrates and proteins) for their growth and development. Some species are even capable of producing vitamins. Some representatives of the genera Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Lactococcus and Pediococcus also belong to the lactobacilli.
