Knotweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) is a type of seaweed and is one of the most mineral-rich foods in the world. It grows from the seabed up to the surface, using its large brown fronds to capture sunlight. This brown seaweed is an excellent natural source of iodine and also contains many minerals, vitamins and trace elements. As the naturally combined nutrients support one another in their absorption and effect, the bioavailability of iodine from brown seaweed is better than that of pure iodine tablets.
Natural Iodine comes from the renowned British company Seagreens® and contains a high-quality, highly concentrated extract of knotted kelp (300 µg iodine). This ensures that the daily iodine requirement is met very effectively and entirely naturally .

Natura Felix Natural Iodine is very well tolerated as it contains no additives (not even the binding agent magnesium stearate). The tablets are held together exclusively by natural substances such as microcrystalline cellulose. The tablets are suitable for people with allergies and vegans.

Iodine is particularly important for the production of the hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) in the thyroid gland. Together with thyrotropin from the pituitary gland, they form the so- called pituitary-thyroid feedback loop, which regulates the concentration of these hormones in the blood plasma.
Thyroid hormones control the body’s basal metabolic rate. They regulate the cardiovascular system, blood pressure, cellular oxygen consumption, body temperature and digestion.

Iodine influences our cognitive functions (logical thinking, memory, concentration) and contributes to normal growth in children.

Naturally balancing iodine deficiency

A daily intake of 200 micrograms is recommended for adults. Pregnant women should consume 230 µg and breastfeeding women 260 µg of iodine. Smokers also have an increased requirement.
Germany is still one of the regions affected by iodine deficiency. The southern federal states are particularly affected, where goitre (an enlarged thyroid gland) is well known as a sign of hypothyroidism. For this reason, shops stock a number of products fortified with iodine (e.g. iodised salt). If this source of iodine is insufficient – for example, in cases of increased requirements (smokers!) or a diet low in iodine (vegans!), an iodine supplement can help to restore balance. Preferably in a natural nutrient complex such as that found in kelp, rather than as an isolated substance.
