What is D-Galactose?
D-Galactose is a naturally occurring simple sugar (monosaccharide) and part of various natural metabolic processes in the body. It is, among other things, a natural component of breast milk and is also found in foods such as fruit, vegetables, certain dairy products and seaweeds.
As a component of carbohydrates, D-galactose plays a role in energy metabolism. In addition, it is a building block of complex cell structures and occurs in various endogenous compounds.
A particular aspect of D-galactose is its specific metabolism in the body. It is absorbed independently of direct insulin action and can be available to the body as an energy source. Because of its properties, D-galactose is often appreciated as a versatile sugar building block.
