Digestive Formula Pro is a supplement containing two scientifically tested plant extracts under the brand names Prodigest® and Mucosave™. It contains ginger and artichoke, which are known for their beneficial effects on digestion in general and stomach function in particular. It is therefore ideal for people who need additional support in this area. In addition to ginger and artichoke, the product also contains a special extract from prickly pear and olive leaves.

Digestion

Digestion refers to the process by which food passes through the gastrointestinal tract and is broken down into increasingly smaller nutrients , which can then be absorbed into the body via the intestinal wall . Amino acids, simple sugars and fatty acids are examples of these nutrients, which serve as building blocks, reserve substances and/or fuel in the body. These nutrients enable us to generate energy, build tissue, produce hormones and neurotransmitters, and form reserves. As our bodies cannot produce them themselves, most vitamins and all minerals must also be obtained through our diet. Excellent digestion is therefore crucial for maintaining optimal health. There are various plants that are known to be beneficial for digestion and the associated organs.

Prodigest® (ginger and artichoke extract)

The ginger and artichoke extract contained in the Pro digestive formula bears the brand name Prodigest® and is sourced from the Italian manufacturer and herbal specialist Indena. Ginger, a spice, is produced from the rhizome of the ginger plant (Zingiber officinale). It belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, which also includes turmeric and cardamom . Indena’s ginger extract has a standardisation level of 2.5% shogaols and gingerols . Prodigest® contains an artichoke extract derived from the leaves of the artichoke (Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus) . This extract contains the active ingredients flavonoids (1.4 %), cynaropicrin (1.4 per cent) and caffeoylquinic acid (5.6 per cent). Human studies have shown that this specific blend of ginger and artichoke aids digestion by contributing to normal stomach function. It is ideally taken with a meal and can be helpful in relieving a feeling of fullness in the stomach and bloating after eating . The artichoke also has a positive effect on liver function, amongst other things by promoting bile production. The liver plays a role in fat digestion by producing bile. Bile emulsifies the fats from our food by breaking them down into smaller droplets, so that the fat-digesting enzymes can process them properly .

Mucosave™ (prickly pear and olive leaf extracts)

The second ingredient in the Digestive Formula Pro is a prickly pear and olive leaf extract marketed under the brand name Mucosave™. It is produced by Bionap, a company also based in Italy. The prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) is native mainly to Mexico, but can also grow in other arid regions (such as the Mediterranean). Prickly pear extract is known to be very rich in mucilage. Mucilage found in plants consists of polysaccharides, which have a high water-absorbing capacity and thus form a protective layer on the plant. Olive leaf extract (Olea europaea), which is rich in polyphenols, combines well with prickly pear extract.

Vegetarian capsule (pullulan, derived from fermented cassava starch), rice flour (Oryza sativa), artichoke extract (Cynara cardunculus var. scolymus, leaf), prickly pear extract (Opuntia ficus-indica), olive leaf extract (Olea europaea), anti-caking agents (calcium salts of fatty acids, silicon dioxide), ginger extract (Zingiber officinale, rhizome).

Recommended intake

2 capsules per day, 1 capsule to be taken with lunch and 1 with dinner, washed down with water.
