Ginkgo plus Phosphatidylserine for the brain

The Ginkgo biloba or Japanese maidenhair tree, which originates from central China, is the oldest living tree species on Earth (around 300 million years). The Ginkgo biloba leaf has health-promoting properties in the form of extracts. Ginkgo leaves have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 5,000 years to promote health. In Western countries it is mainly used to support the circulatory system and cognitive functions such as memory, concentration and learning ability.

Effective effects are only shown with highly concentrated, standardised extracts of Ginkgo biloba. Vitale Ginkgo biloba-PS capsules contain 480 mg per capsule of the ingredient Virtiva®, which consists of 120 mg Ginkgo biloba extract (24 mg flavonol glycosides and 6 mg terpene lactones) and 360 mg lecithin (55 mg phosphatidylserine). The ratio of flavonol glycosides to terpene lactones (24/6) is the most commonly used in scientific research on Ginkgo biloba.

Optimised absorption through Phytosome® technology

With the patented Phytosome® technology from the Italian company Indena, the absorption and bioavailability of the flavonol glycosides and terpene lactones in Ginkgo biloba-PS have been significantly increased. The term “phytosome” is derived from the Greek words “phuton” (plant) and “soma” (body). The patented process reduces the natural clumping of certain poorly absorbable phytonutrients (such as those from Ginkgo biloba) and combines them with phospholipids (phosphatidylserine) from sunflower lecithin. The active ingredients are not encapsulated (as in liposomes), but a homogeneous mixture of small, easily absorbable particles is formed. Ginkgo biloba actives are lipophilic (terpene lactones) and hydrophilic (flavonol glycosides). Phospholipids have lipophilic properties on one side and hydrophilic properties on the other. Phytonutrients therefore often adhere to phospholipids and form so-called phytosomes. This results in particularly good absorption. Cell membranes (such as the cells in the small intestine and brain) consist of a phospholipid bilayer, which facilitates good uptake of the active ingredients. Research has shown that this Phytosome® technology improves the absorption and bioavailability of phytonutrients.

Unlike liposome technology, where the active ingredient in a liposome is contained inside a small sphere surrounded by a bilayer of phospholipids, the Phytosome® technology is based on a true homogenisation, in which the active ingredient is not encapsulated. For this reason the required phospholipids are significantly less compared with liposomes.

Recommended intake

Take 1 tablet per day with water at a meal.
