Green tea, one of the oldest drinks in the world!
Its history stretches back more than 5,000 years. Green tea is particularly popular in China and Japan and is also becoming increasingly popular in the West. This has always been largely due to its health benefits. Green tea is made from the leaves of the tea plant Camellia sinensis, which grows mainly in South-East Asia. It is an unfermented tea variety in which the tea leaves are treated with steam, thereby protecting the important compounds (polyphenols and catechins) from oxidation. In black tea, the tea leaves undergo fermentation, which significantly reduces the catechin content. Research has shown that it is the catechins that are responsible for the health benefits of tea. The most important catechin in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This product is standardised to contain 120 mg of catechins and 75 mg of EGCG per capsule. Furthermore, thanks to the unique manufacturing process, these catechins are absorbed twice as effectively as those in conventional green tea.
Improved absorption through Phytosome® technology
Vitals Green Tea-PS is more readily absorbed thanks to the use of the patented Phytosome® technology from the Italian manufacturer Indena. The term ‘phytosome’ is derived from the Greek words ‘phuton’ (plant) and ‘soma’ (body). In this patented manufacturing process, the natural agglomeration of certain phytonutrients that are poorly absorbed (e.g. polyphenols from green tea) is reduced, and they are mixed with phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine) derived from sunflower lecithin. The active ingredients are not encapsulated (as in liposomes); instead, a homogeneous mixture of small, easily absorbed particles is formed. Polyphenols (such as the catechins in green tea) have a natural affinity for phospholipids. This results in the formation of phytosomes, in which the polyphenols bind to the phospholipids. This ensures they are absorbed particularly well. Cell membranes (e.g. those of the small intestine cells) themselves also consist of a phospholipid bilayer, which allows these phytosomes to pass through the intestinal wall with great ease and enables the active ingredients to be absorbed into the bloodstream (see Figure 1). Studies have shown that the absorption of catechins from green tea is more than doubled by this phytosome technology.
Unlike liposome technology
In a liposome, the active ingredient is located at the centre of a particle surrounded by a double layer of phospholipids. Phytosome technology, on the other hand, involves a truly homogeneous mixture, and the active ingredient is not encapsulated. Consequently, far fewer phospholipids are required than with liposomes.

Vitals, our new brand from 2025
We are constantly on the lookout for brands that represent our ideals: The highest quality, consistent omission of superfluous additives such as titanium dioxide or porcine gelatine, very good value for money and absolute reliability in delivery to us and therefore also to customers.
This is very difficult because such companies are extremely rare among the mass of manufacturers of food supplements that are now on the market. But we have managed to find them again, with Vitals from the Netherlands!
