Digestive power from the guar bean
In various regions of India, even in areas suffering from extreme drought, the guar plant (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) is cultivated. In India, the leaves and beans of this plant have been consumed for thousands of years. Guar beans provide a high amount of soluble prebiotic fibre. Sunfiber® is used in guar bean fibre from Vitals. This is the brand name for guar bean fibres which, through a natural fermentation process, acquire their high-quality, user-friendly properties, such as excellent water solubility. Sunfiber®-fermented guar bean fibres are regarded worldwide as the perfect dietary fibre !
What are fibres?
Dietary fibre consists of a long chain of
carbohydrates made up of 10 or more monosaccharides
that cannot be broken down by digestive enzymes
in the human small intestine. Dietary fibre is essential for
a healthy and varied diet. Dietary fibre
can be divided into two types: those that are water-soluble
and those that are not water-soluble. Examples
of water-soluble dietary fibre include guar bean fibre
(galactomannan), inulin (FOS) and psyllium fibre.
Wheat bran and dietary fibre from other
(wholemeal) cereals are classified as non-water-soluble
fibres. Fibre that is soluble in water
is also referred to as a prebiotic, as it can be fermented by the gut flora
. The higher the solubility of a
fibre, the more effectively it is fermented.
In the gut flora, fermentation leads to the formation of
metabolic products such as short-chain fatty acids, including
butyrate, propionate and acetate. However, it is important that
the fermentation process does not proceed too quickly, as this
can lead to gas formation.
Sunfiber® from Taiyo
Sunfiber® possesses the ideal properties of excellent water solubility and complete fermentation, which does not, however, take place too quickly. This makes the product very user-friendly, in contrast to psyllium fibre, which dissolves much less readily in water, and inulin, which ferments very quickly. Sunfiber® is produced by Taiyo . The company is a global leader and is regarded as an expert in guar bean fibre. Guar bean fibre normally forms a gel in water. Taiyo has therefore developed a special manufacturing process to improve the solubility of the fibres. The gel formation is caused by the fact that the guar bean fibres consist of naturally very long carbohydrate chains. Thanks to a fermentation process (in which a natural enzyme is added ), the long chains are ‘pre-digested’ into shorter chains, which improves their solubility. However, the carbohydrate chains should not be too short, as otherwise they will ferment too quickly in the gut. Taiyo’s unique production process achieves the optimum chain length, giving Sunfiber® its ideal properties. Sunfiber® is also made from guar bean fibres sourced exclusively from pesticide-free, cultivated guar beans.
