L-lysine is the precursor to the amino acid carnitine
This product uses the natural L-form of lysine, rather than
the synthetic D-form. Only the
L-form is physiologically active. Lysine used in dietary supplements
is produced by fermentation using microorganisms
. Plants and microorganisms are capable of
synthesising lysine from the amino acid aspartic acid.
There are around 500 amino acids that occur in nature.
Twenty of these amino acids act as building blocks for protein in
the human body and are called ‘essential amino acids’
. These basic amino acids can be classified into the
categories ‘essential’, ‘semi-essential’ and ‘non-essential’
. L-lysine is one of the essential amino acids,
which means that the body is unable to produce it itself from
other amino acids and is therefore entirely dependent on dietary intake
to meet
its daily requirements. Vegetarians and vegans may have an
insufficient intake of lysine, as animal proteins
are particularly rich in this amino acid.

Recommended intake
As a food supplement for adults, take 2–3 capsules per day with water between meals (at least half an hour before or two hours after eating).
