Natural L-theanine from green tea
L-theanine is a free amino acid that does not fall into the categories of essential or non-essential amino acids and is not incorporated into the body’s proteins. Theanine, also known as γ-glutamylethylamide or 5-N-ethylglutamine, is similar to glutamine, but has unique properties. It is found almost exclusively in the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) and is one of the factors that contribute to the flavour of tea.
Many dietary supplements containing L-theanine that are available use a synthetically produced variant, in which the molecule has been replicated industrially. On the European market, however, synthetic forms of L-theanine are not officially authorised. Although it is possible to extract L-theanine from natural sources, the difficulty lies in achieving a high level of purity and concentration. Tea leaves, the only natural source of L-theanine, also contain a small amount of caffeine, which is often present in the extract as well. For people who are sensitive to caffeine, taking such an L-theanine supplement before bedtime is not possible – this can be regarded as a disadvantage.
L-theanine from Vitals: high-potency, pure and caffeine-free
Vitals has identified a manufacturer who has been able to overcome these difficulties. Vitals’ L-theanine product offers a high-dose, very pure and concentrated form of natural L-theanine from green tea, containing 200 mg per capsule. A key advantage is that it is sufficient to take just one or two capsules a day. The product is also free from caffeine and contains no epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a phytonutrient found in green tea, for which there is a statutory upper limit . In summary, Vitals’ L-Theanine 200 mg is, in every respect, the perfect L-theanine supplement !

Vitals, our new brand from 2025
We are constantly on the lookout for brands that represent our ideals: The highest quality, consistent omission of superfluous additives such as titanium dioxide or porcine gelatine, very good value for money and absolute reliability in delivery to us and therefore also to customers.
This is very difficult because such companies are extremely rare among the mass of manufacturers of food supplements that are now on the market. But we have managed to find them again, with Vitals from the Netherlands!
Manufacturer's address: Vitals Voedingssupplementen BV, Pieter Lieftinckweg 29, 1505 HX Zaandam, Netherlands. E-mail: customer service@vitals.eu.
