Natural L-theanine from green tea
L-theanine is a free amino acid that does not fall into the categories of essential or non-essential amino acids and is not incorporated into body protein. Theanine, also known as γ-glutamylethylamide or 5-N-ethylglutamine, resembles glutamine but has unique properties. It occurs almost exclusively in the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) and is one of the factors that contribute to the taste of tea.
Numerous L-theanine food supplements available use a synthetically produced variant in which the molecule has been industrially reproduced. However, synthetic forms of L-theanine are not officially authorised on the European market. Although it is possible to extract L-theanine from natural sources, the difficulty lies in achieving high purity and concentration. Tea leaves, the only natural source of L-theanine, also contain a small amount of caffeine, which often occurs in the extract. For people who are sensitive to caffeine, taking such an L-theanine preparation before bedtime is not possible – this can be seen as a disadvantage.
L-theanine from Vitals: high-dose, pure and caffeine-free
Vitals has identified a producer who was able to overcome these difficulties. Vitals' L-theanine product offers a high-dose, very pure and concentrated form of natural L-theanine from green tea, with 200 mg per capsule. A major advantage is that it is sufficient to take one to two capsules daily. The product is also free of caffeine and contains no epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a phytonutrient from green tea for which a legal upper limit exists. In summary, Vitals L-theanine 200 mg is in every respect the perfect L-theanine food supplement!

Vitals, our new brand from 2025
We are constantly on the lookout for brands that represent our ideals: highest quality, the consistent omission of unnecessary additives such as titanium dioxide or porcine gelatin, excellent value for money and absolute reliability in delivery to us and thus to our customers.
This is very difficult because such companies are extremely rare among the mass of dietary supplement manufacturers now on the market. But we have once again managed to find one with Vitals from the Netherlands!
