Magnesium bisglycinate 100 mg with taurine, 60 tablets

Chelate – the best mineral compound with taurine

In this product, magnesium is present as magnesium bisglycinate. In this process each magnesium particle is chelated to two molecules of the amino acid glycerin. Such a compound is commonly referred to as an amino acid chelate or amino acid chelate mineral.
Magnesium is one of the minerals most frequently used in complementary medicine. This is because magnesium plays a significant role in over 300 physiological processes in the body. Furthermore, changes in food production and eating habits have led to many people consuming less magnesium through their diet, even though many (unprocessed) foods contain magnesium. Magnesium intake before industrialisation was estimated at 475 to 500 mg per day, whereas today it is around 345 mg (average per day).

Absorption of common mineral compounds

Various magnesium compounds are used in dietary supplements. Some of these, such as the inorganic mineral compounds magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate, are not well absorbed and have low bioavailability. When minerals (in any binding form except amino acids in chelate form) enter the acidic environment of the stomach, the digestive process begins with the separation of the mineral component from its chemical structure. During digestion the mineral naturally becomes electrically charged. Because of this charge it is attracted to other charged particles, such as those found in vegetables, fibre and fats. These particles isolate the mineral ions so that they can no longer be taken up and utilised by the body as effectively. The limited amount of free mineral ions now available travels through the digestive tract and competes with other minerals (e.g. calcium) for absorption through the intestinal wall and into the cells.

Studies on magnesium bisglycinate**

Several studies have been conducted to confirm the efficacy of magnesium bisglycinate. Some of these studies compared the absorption of magnesium bisglycinate with various magnesium compounds such as magnesium carbonate, magnesium sulfate and magnesium oxide. Magnesium bisglycinate was absorbed significantly faster and better than the other forms. Magnesium oxide performed by far the worst.
