Male hormones

Fenugreek

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is also known as 'Greek hay'. Both the leaves and the seeds are used in cooking. The manufacturer Gencor Pacific Limited has developed a fenugreek extract marketed under the name Testofen®, which can be used as a dietary supplement. The product is a patented extract standardised to a unique active complex called Fenuside™, consisting of several saponins. Naturally occurring phytonutrients in fenugreek are saponins. Numerous human studies have also been conducted with Testofen®.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an herbal preparation with many uses. It is an herb that fits well into a men’s formula and can be used in addition to its broad support for vitality and endurance. Ashwagandha supports male sexual function and improves sperm quality as well as fertility. The manufacturer Ixoreal supplies the ashwagandha extract marketed as KSM-66®, which Vitals uses. The development of this specialised extract was based on fourteen years of research. With ashwagandha it is crucial that the full spectrum of active compounds is obtained from the root and not just the withanolides. The effect of the preparation ultimately relies on the synergy of the different components. A customised extraction process is used to produce KSM-66® that does not use toxic or environmentally harmful solvents. This yields a broad-acting extract that preserves the natural properties of the source plant. Maca

Maca is a root vegetable that grows naturally at high altitudes in the Peruvian Andes. What many do not know is that maca comes in different varieties that differ in their phytochemical composition and effects. The different maca types are distinguished by the colour of the tuber, which can be yellow, red or black, among others. Due to the specific proportions of their characteristic constituents (such as glucosinolates and lignans), black maca is considered a typical 'men’s maca'. Yellow maca (with different glucosinolates) is regarded more as 'women’s maca'. The men’s formula Pro Testosteron under the brand name Maca-OG™ mainly contains this black maca in a 10:1 concentrate. Maca is known to increase sexual desire. Similar to ashwagandha, it supports sperm quality, fertility and sexual function.

Zinc

In the men’s formula Pro Testosteron, zinc is an important trace element. Zinc is known to contribute to the maintenance of a normal testosterone level in the blood. Zinc directly influences the production, storage and release of testosterone. Zinc is also necessary to release LH, which in turn is responsible for testosterone production. Zinc thus contributes to a normal hormonal balance. Zinc is also involved in the formation of sperm cells and is therefore beneficial for male fertility. A well-absorbed form of zinc bisglycinate was used in Männerformel Pro Testosteron, in which zinc is bound to the amino acid glycine. The dose has been deliberately chosen not to be too high so that this product can also be safely used together with a multivitamin that already contains zinc.

Selenium

In addition to zinc, the men’s formula Pro Testosteron also contains a safe dose of the trace element selenium. By supporting sperm motility, selenium contributes to high-quality sperm. Like zinc, it has antioxidant properties and can help protect cells (including sperm cells) from oxidative damage. L-selenomethionine, a form of selenium with good absorption, is bound to the amino acid L-methionine.

Recommended use

Take 1 tablet twice a day with water at a meal.

Note

If you have an overactive thyroid or are taking thyroid medication, consult a doctor before using a supplement containing ashwagandha. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
