Male hormones

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is also known as ‘Greek hay’. Both the leaves and the seeds are used in cooking. The manufacturer, Gencor Pacific Limited, has developed a fenugreek extract under the brand name Testofen®, which can be used as a dietary supplement. The product is a patented extract standardised to a unique active ingredient complex called Fenuside™, which consists of several saponins. Saponins are naturally occurring phytonutrients found in fenugreek. Numerous human studies have also been carried out using Testofen®.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a herbal preparation with a wide range of uses. It is a herb that fits perfectly into a men’s formula and can be used alongside the comprehensive support it offers for vitality and stamina. Ashwagandha promotes male sexual function and improves sperm quality and fertility. The manufacturer Ixoreal offers the ashwagandha extract under the brand name KSM-66®, which Vitals uses. The development of this specialised extract was based on fourteen years of research. With ashwagandha, it is crucial that the full spectrum of active compounds is extracted from the root, rather than just the withanolides. Maca

Maca is a root vegetable that grows naturally in the high altitudes of the Peruvian Andes. The different varieties of maca are distinguished by the colour of the root, which can be yellow, red or black, amongst others. Due to the specific proportions of its characteristic constituents (such as glucosinolates and lignans), black maca is regarded as the typical ‘men’s maca’. Yellow maca (containing different glucosinolates), on the other hand, is generally regarded as ‘women’s maca’. The men’s formula Pro Testosteron, marketed under the brand name Maca-OG™, contains mainly this black maca in a 10:1 concentrate. Maca is known for increasing sexual desire. Similar to ashwagandha, it supports sperm quality, fertility and sexual function.

Zinc

In the men’s formula Pro Testosteron, zinc is an important trace element. Zinc is known to help maintain normal testosterone levels in the blood. Zinc directly influences the production, storage and release of testosterone. Zinc is also necessary for the release of LH, which in turn is responsible for testosterone production. Zinc thus contributes to normal hormonal balance. Zinc is also involved in the formation of sperm cells and is therefore beneficial for male fertility. The men’s formula Pro Testosterone uses an easily absorbed form of zinc bisglycinate, in which zinc is bound to the amino acid glycine. The dose has deliberately been kept low so that this product can be safely taken alongside a multivitamin supplement that already contains zinc.

Selenium

In addition to zinc, the men’s formula Pro Testosteron also contains a safe dose of the trace element selenium. By supporting sperm motility, selenium contributes to high-quality sperm. Like zinc, it has an antioxidant effect and can help protect cells (including sperm cells) from oxidative damage. L-selenomethionine, a form of selenium with good absorption, is bound to the amino acid L-methionine.

Recommended intake

Take 1 tablet twice a day with water, with a meal.

Note

If you have hyperthyroidism or are taking thyroid medication, you should consult a doctor before using an ashwagandha supplement. Do not use during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding.
