MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane, which is also known as organically bound sulphur. MSM contains two methyl groups and has a sulphur content of over 34 per cent. It occurs naturally in rainwater and in fresh fruit and vegetables. Breast milk is the most nutrient-rich natural source of MSM. MSM plays a vital role in life on Earth.

Manufacturing process

Although MSM is a natural substance, it would not be practical to extract it naturally. Many trees would have to be felled, which would be undesirable. The raw materials used today are DMSO, water and hydrogen peroxide. DMSO is then converted into MSM through a complex process. It is of great importance that the process used to manufacture the product yields a pure end result. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be a given in the production of MSM. The expensive distillation process, which effectively removes any impurities in the raw materials, is far superior to the commonly used (much cheaper) crystallisation process.

Synergists: Glucosamine serves, amongst other things, as a precursor for various macromolecules such as glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans, hyaluronic acid, glycolipids and glycoproteins. The glucosamine contained in this product is of the highest quality and is of plant origin (from maize) – it is not derived from shellfish. Consequently, MSM-GC contains no common allergens. Chondroitin (in the form of chondroitin sulphate) is a type of glycosaminoglycan. Three different enzymes involved in collagen synthesis (the most common structural component in the human body) require vitamin C as a coenzyme. Normal collagen synthesis is, amongst other things, important for cartilage.

Recommended intake
